Hi Tim,
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with these gentlemen or their experimentation.
I will say this though.
The principle of attempting to control line using some sort of funnel concept isn’t new, the MicroWave system is just the best design to be developed yet. The cone of flight is basically a funnel system that spans the length of a rod. This system changes the length of it from

Hi Bill/Mo/Jim,
I didn’t reply to this subject because I wanted to give Mo my opinion on his original questions. Even with my obvious affiliation, I am still a rod builder at heart.
I hear you on the sales of individual parts and anticipated this early on. Mo, I don’t take your comment personally and you are somewhat correct.
From the business side of things, a technology is patente

Hi Bobby,
I apologize for failing to respond. I checked my email and asked everyone here if they received a note, yet nobody could recall. I am not saying we didn’t receive it, my emails are regularly swamped. If it went to Joe or sales@ it most likely hasn’t been picked up yet. Joe is currently on a globe-trotting sales trip that began immediately following a trade show we exhibited at in

Hi Mo,
I tried the KR H’s and I thought they worked but not well for all line types/sizes. The same can be said for many guide trains though. In our testing it was the only guide train that was close to the efficiency of the MicroWave sets we were developing. Most likely because the both focus on taming line as quickly as possible.
As to your query about the MWG being the final conclusion

Hi Lorenzo,
You should have a good layout with what you have. Our testing showed that micro guide sets that started with a 6 or 8mm stripping guide seemed to work better over a straight 4mm without a larger stripping guide. Some micro guide rods just didn’t cast well under all circumstances (all we tested that is). Using a 10mm ring to gather and a 5mm to control onto 5mm running guides felt

Hi Lorenzo,
It is correct that the recently released MicroWave guides are for spinning rod applications.
However, the theory behind the system holds true for any rod that casts including bait casting, heavy spin, surf, boat & even fly rods.
Interestingly enough, a 10/5 is the ideal sizing for bait casting rods. And in testing the 5mm running guides work extremely well with that stri

Hi Andy,
You really don’t need to bend or alter the angle of the guides. We did quite a bit of this ourselves during the initial testing. Although as Mark said, they cast really well as is, you could adjust the position of the transition guide to change the line angle but we found the current spacing ideal for function during that testing.

Hi Mo,
Yes, I guess I see your point. We do however want to sell the entire set to complete the “systemâ€. We tried to make it as simple and easy as possible. We are working on other additions which might have the running guides you require. The original stripping guide remains available individually as well.
I don’t mid the comments at all, thank you for participating.
Best Regard

Hi Mike,
I'll answer since not that many people have had a chance to use these on a wide array of builds yet.
I can’t see any down side to using this system on that rod at all. We didn't try any on 12’ rods in testing but longer would only mean adding running guides. If the reel size is vastly different then possibly a slight adjustment to the stripping/transition guides might be in or

Hi all,
I must say that I was surprised by Tom’s findings. Tom had a good point which was that it was as good as anything else he’s tried and certainly was no worse. Not necessarily what I was hoping for though, so when I learned of this I went right back to our guys who helped worked in testing/development to see how we had different results. Here are some points that were made during my

Great points and questions brought out in the threads below. I wanted to address most if not all but it would take too more time than I have. Instead I thought I would start anew with comments about the system as a whole. I know that many people are wary of marketing mumbo jumbo but I can say we did exhaustive testing on our own to validate any claims, if nothing else but to make sure WE were all

Hi guys,
Very interesting Ken, you are a true rod builder in spirit and form. Thank you for the results, looks like the MicroWave guides outcast 2 out of 3 lure weights. This is impressive particularly since you didn’t really use the system as it was designed. By that I mean these guides were intended for lighter rods, casting lighter weights and to be used as a complete set with specific sp

Hi guys,
Basic spacing suggestions as well as the Q & A below can be found on our web site.
We found most reels to be fairly similar dimensionally speaking (except for spool size). Some that didn’t conform still worked well using our system. As suggested the system can be adapted for larger reels by moving the stripper guide around a bit. We offer “suggested†placements and t

Hi Robert,
I think the video actually shows quite a bit. The standard guide train has friction at each guide as it tries to control the helical motion of the line at each point. The MicroWave system controls line at the first guide reducing the total amount of friction per rod. It’s really impressive how much smoother a cast is with the MicroWave guides which that particular movie cannot rep

Hi guys,
Ken, we tested large and smaller ring guide combinations including 16mm, 30mm & 25mm. We found that with this series there was no reason to go larger than the 20mm primary ring to achieve the best results. We were also able to reduce the overall size of the guide as well as reduce the weight of the entire set with this sizing. Heavy monofilament might dictate a larger ring but lig

Hi Bob,
Believe me, I’ve been a party to a lot of hype but this is the real deal. It absolutely works! Trust me I have been dealing with a lot of skeptics. In fact I was a skeptic as well but I have now tested and witnessed testing against cone of flight, new guide concept, KR concept and a mish-mash of “custom†combinations with nothing surpassing the MicroWave guide system. I am so exc

Hi Lou,
No they differ in several ways, but the theory behind them remains the same. The original is a 30/8 and this system utilizes an elevated 20/6 plus a few other adjusted dimensions as well. We also included it into its own complete guide train. As I said the theory and principles are the same which means there are many combinations possible for all sorts of different rod styles.

Hi Spencer,
The running guides utilize 5mm rings which performed extremely well. Using 4mm or even 3mm ring guides will work but didn't present improvement over our designed set. We considered many different combinations of sizing but first and foremost we needed to create a product that delivers the benefits mentioned. At the same time we needed to fit accepted practice. The 5mm rings are a s

Hi Phil,
We have a MicroWave, question and answer page on the web site as well. A popular question is about line which is why it's included. We tested the system using everything from stiff monos etc. to various braids. There's an interesting story in this week's newsletter which is also on our web site (if not yet then it will be shortly). It is testimony specifically about using fluorocarbon

Hi all,
For those who may not know, American Tackle has partnered up with Doug Hannon to work on expanding his Micro Wave guide theory into a complete system.
Countless hours were spent developing and testing various guide designs to find the best combination of guides to deliver all the benefits possible. Using hand-made prototypes we built rods for exhaustive casting exercises, fishing in t

Thank you for the acknowledgement Ken, I forwarded this on to Joe who is traveling in Europe after we exhibited in Paris. He'll appreciate this coming from you who he greatly respects. It's also nice because we donate to so many worthy causes without seeking acknowledgment. Unlike so many others, Joe would rather do what's right then create opportunities for good press.

Welcome Timo!
I just spent a week in Paris at the EFTTEX show with Mr. Keil and I can tell you that he is one of the most dedicated and well liked craftsman involved in the rod building world. He is also an American Tackle distributor and we were proud to spend time with him in our booth in Europe. Thank you for all your help Timo.

Hi Marc,
Saw this so I thought I’d chime in. I love fishing longer rods, particularly BB style rods which I use for everything in many different fishing styles and locales. This is most likely from my So Cal days and in fact we originated the 1087, 1088, & 1089’s through Talon/LCI after we got tired of extending Loomis BB blanks. Excellent for Albacore and other SW applications(includi

Hi Bill,
I am not sure what you mean by problem. We contract manufacturing out with many factories all over the world for blanks, guides, seats etc. Most factories have most likely never been heard of before and would mean little to nothing to most so I am not sure what purpose disclosure would serve. In fact some factories have agreements of non-disclosure protecting both parties from a varie

Hi,
Personally I absolutely love woven graphite/Texalium handles. I use a lot of Vetre handles but have made many creative grips with cork/eva/carbon tubing combinations. In general they are hard(or slick), light-weight, sensitive and offer unique cosmetic options.

Hi Bill,
Yes, they do. The bottom of the ring ID to the bottom of the foot (would be at the blank surface) for the DCRLF is .139" and the NCRLF is .126".
Hope this helps.
