Just wondering what thread colour y'all would suggest. I'm putting together a 7136-4 spey conversion using Fuji Titanium Sic's and Struble Nickel Silver skeleton seat with a sweet piece of blue died Big Leaf Maple burl. Should I go with the factory colour? Something closer to the wood? What you guys think? What is the factory colour? Thanks for the help. :)

Schedule 40 PVC pipe with end caps. Leave room for an inch of foam in each end cap. Fill in extra space with bubble wrap. Pretty much bullet proof!!! :)

Thanks for the info Herb. Money is not an issue on this build. I'm putting together a Sage Z-Axis 7136-4 Spey conversion and have some spendy cork, struble reel seat hardware and Fugi TYSG titanium sic's for it. I have nearly $300 in components already so a few more $$$$ won't kill me. :)

I'm looking for some stabilized jade wood in 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" square. Any body know where I can find some? I remember talk of a suplier of stabilized woods on here but am having trouble finding it using the search feature. Thanks in advance for your assistance. I found reelseatblanks.com but they don't seem to have what I'm looking for.

Yep, same as Rolly here. I like Batson XY series or Fugi LVSG's or if you have an unlimited budget TYSG's. :) I use #7's on out to the tip as I don't like how the #8's change the action of the blank.

I'll bet the major factor in tip breakage on bass rods is highsticking though. I cringe everytime I see one of those "bass pros" swing a fish on board or grab the blank 2 feet down from the tip to man handle the illusive bass onto their boat.

The XST's are excellent blanks. I built one of the 3pce blanks to take to Alaska this year and it performed flawlessly. The 2 pce is a bit of a pain to transport but it is lighter in the hand. I'll get to play with one my buddy has next week. :) I run my guides like Eric above ^^^

If you are using heat hold use your free hand to hold the rod in the area you are heating. If it's too hot to hold it's too hot for the blank.

I used Batson solid glass saltwater blanks cut down to make 2 rods. I was able to get a MH and a H rod by changing how the blank was cut down. .385"x.105"x72" Black / White 6'0" 1 12-20 LB 0.385 7.0 Moderate n/a $10.22

Preston Here's a couple I built last year. The lighter rod has a #8 tip and the heavy rod has a #10. I also agree with using solid banks for durability. These two rods are bomb proof. I use a lot of braid on my setups due to fishing deep water almost exclusively. While I have had the line stick to the ice a few times I haven't experienced the icing on the reel that Roger has. It probably ha
