91. AMTAK Titan
Very soon now I'll be receiving my 11 foot 5 weight CTS Affinity blank. I want to use the Titan guides from AMTAK and would like to know of your experiences with them - are they as good as the Fuji's ?
If you have found one of the sponsors to have a better price on these guides than others please let me know too.
Thanks

Can anyone guide me to someone who will be able to supply impregnated quad bamboo blanks that are not too expensive ?
And maybe even someone who makes spliced blanks as well ?
Thanks

Hi Brian,
I'm wrapping a Lamiglas fiberglass fly rod right now using Pearsalls Gossamer - I chose white to get a clear wrap - it works great. Next up is a 11 foot 5 weight graphite blank from CTS - I'll be wrapping that one with silk also but the Gossamer is VERY thin so I'll be using Naples instead. I dont think silk is better or worse - just different which is why "we" build our own

Hi Terry,
I usually apply about 6 coats of the marine varnish when I'm using nylon - but I dont think I'll need more than about 4 coats on the silk thread due to the small diameter of the silk thread.

Hi,
I'm working on this Lamiglas fiberglass rod and decided to use white silk thread for the rod hoping for clear wraps - so I did it - wrapped the ferrules to test it - warmed up some thinned marine varnish in a jar in some boiling water - applied it to the wraps and KAZAMMM - they dissapeared/melted/vanished - all that is left is a glass like band where the wraps were and I noticed I was smili

If you cant get them from any of the sponsors here you can try Cabelas - I think I saw them on their website.
If I'm out of line recommending a non-sponsor please let me know.

97. Re: Rodbond
Thanks for your advice - I will not use 5 min epoxy - its not as flexible as the slower epoxy I think - so I'll stick with what I know works and just make it right the first time ;-)

Hi,
I've been using a slow cure (24 hours) two part epoxy for all my rods up til now. I tried to rebuild a rod I had build using this epoxy - Araldit its called - and I wanted to take of the reel seat - I heated it - boiled it - pulled twisted - you name it - the epoxy wouldnt loosen.
I ended up cutting the blank to save the reelseat. I then tried - just to experiment - to torch the epoxy that

100. 11' 5 wt. blank
I've been looking for an 11' 5 weight blank but it seems to be very difficult. I only found one - a Gatti. Does any of you know of such a blank ? It must be 3-pieces or more. 10'6" is also fine but not shorter than that and it must be a 5 weight.
Thanks

Hi Carrington,
not that I prefer a full wells grip on a small rod but the Lamiglas fiberglass 4 weight that I'm building right now is inspired by the cane rod made for Scott by Mr. Mario Wojnicki - take a look for some inspiration:
I've made mine with a kind of modified Ritz grip - I'll try to post some pictures if I ever get it finished.

Hi Hans,
if you have never wrapped a rod before I'd stick with regular nylon like Gudebrod or similar.
I havnt wrapped many rods but using nylon is close to a free ride. Silk on the other hand is a different beast. I'm currently wrapping my first rod with silk using Pearsalls Gossamer black and white hoping for a translucent look once finished. Silk - this one anyway - is much finer/thinner tha

103. Re: tip top sizeing
If you have a rod tip which is in between sizes you can sometimes use the one which is too small and increase the inner diameter using sandpaper taped onto a small drill bit - just remember that you want to do it in stages since the tip top will get hot and may ruin the finish due to the heat.
I just did this to a Snake Brand 5.5 tip top that was too small for a Lamiglas fiberglass rod and Snake
