Unless it offends you, St Croix has nice cases that are durable, solid and sized to fit a variety of spinning rods. They do offer a 7'0", two-piece. It is their model number RC45.

Nope ... multi-layered, tip to toe. Different design, but similar thought to strength and rigidity. When the longer Tri-Flex blanks were discontinued, I moved into Hercules and St Croix Offshore blanks.

Get with Billy Vivona, he knows Hercules blanks better than anyone (great choice to replace that model) and he does stellar work.

Get with Alex at Hydra. My favorite rod for that type of work is on one of his blanks. He can make a solid recommendation based on your specific needs/desires. Alex is a tournament bass angler and really knows his stuff.

Batson has some really nice blanks in their RX8 Walleye series, I would recommend taking a look at their offerings. The XSW72ML might be just the ticket, based on your specifications.

I don't use anything less than a double-footed 10mm guide on a setup as you have described.

IMO, branding doesn't mean diddle unless you are a marquee brand ... St Croix, Sage, G Loomis, Winston, etc.
What you need is an extremely well-built, high performance rod that is unparalleled. That is all it takes to convince a high-end buyer, anyone else isn't the audience of a custom rod builder.
$75 won't get me out of bed in the morning - to each their own in that respect.

The only constraints are those applied by the builder themselves - by choice at times, other times not. Either skill set and/or marketing effort establish the majority of those limits. There are those building traditional graphite conventional/casting/spinning rods which sell in excess of $500 and even $1,000. There are others building fly rods selling for $1,000, $2,000 and even in excess of

If he is building for sale AND not buying wholesale, that's a problem within itself. Anyone building/selling has to pay FET, at that point you are do

One thing to remember ... you operate TWO businesses, not one, when it comes to pricing. Parts = One Business, Labor = Another Separate Business. Both sides should contain profitability that stands on their own. Anything less and you are donating, period.

Ah ... the old "custom" or "not to be custom" question.
Beauty, and value/price, are in the eyes of the beholder - that's all there is to it. Furthermore, wouldn't everyone here agree that a "rack rod" built by one of our "Masters" of the trade would most definitely be worth more than a "commissioned" rod built by a novice builder.

Good luck with your search. I don't think that there is anyone currently using the RodMaker grading scale (CG1, CG2 and CG3) in the resale business. Cork has definitely gone up in price a

Fuji is the standard for G Loomis - usually Alconite or SiC rings. Since you mentioned a black ring, that would indicate Alconite.

Buy a Flexcoat dryer next time ... rods don't slip out of them unless you do something TERRIBLY wrong.

My current favorite is built on a US-built Hydra blank. Contact Alex and see if he has something that fits your needs.

I have been happy with Pac Bay threads. Bingham carries it, as do a few others. In addition, Bingham and Schneider's did have a pretty decent selection of remaining Gudebrod.

The issue is that without CP the skin will darken severely and look terrible. I use CP to adhere it and completely coat it. There was a very nice article in a previous RodMaker issue.

Since you mentioned Alconite, that tells me you like Fuji. I would suggest the new "K" series of guides in your choice of frame metal/finish. A 25mm butt guide is a great size to pair with a Stradic 2500. Using mono, you could easily drop to smaller running guides. Using braid to leader, I would stay with 6mm or even more to 7mm. There is a very helpful piece of software on the Fuj

Comparing the Microwave guide layout to a Cone of Flight layout is a poor comparison, IMO. Cone of Flight has been dated for a LONG time and isn't even close to an accepted "modern" layout. Try a fair comparison such as Fuji's New Guide Concept or one of the variations thereof.

Sixty percent of the US population lives east of the Mississippi River and that population contains a higher percentage of anglers. Exhibition halls, hotels and more are less expensive on the East Coast. It isn't possible to do two shows per year - cost and logistics prohibit it. In addition, most attendees, and exhibitors, are fortunate to have the time/finances to attend one show per year.

Nothing exactly, but definitely on the field with NFC and St Croix - my other two favorites. They are unfinished, very strong, highly responsive blanks.
I am a "Made in the USA" buyer whenever possible - and these match that criteria as well. The customer service is outstanding, which always earns "bonus points" in my book.
My advice is to visit Alex and Company at the

My suggestion is to DEFINITELY buy abalone from Kevin. He has done the research and REALLY knows the product. His stuff is hands down the best in the marketplace ... amazing product. Best of all, you will get expert advice. I don't believe anyone knows more than Kevin about the use of abalone on fishing rods.
