Hydra offers a 6 power popping blank in 7'5" length that should be the perfect answer. I would steer away from glass.

Yes, color preserver. It is your "glue" and your "top coat". Make ABSOLUTE certain that the skin is 100% covered with CP, no gaps, no dry spots. No skin can be touched by the epoxy finish, otherwise it will turn it pure black. There are very nice articles in back issues of RodMaker magazine. It would be a good investment to make a purchase.

Ha! Nothing is more upscale than an included cook-to-order breakfast along with unlimited appetizers and drinks every evening during happy hour. Embassy Suites is one of my favorite chains. Four Seasons is more upscale, but that comes at a price.

All but the first aren't worth rebuilding/repairing IMO. The first one MIGHT be. Looks like parts, not worth much IMO.

If you are using a hand wrapper, just flip the rod around ... that allows you to always wrap from left to right.

Phenix IF-711-1 is a 7'1" blank at 1.0 ounces. It will work great for dropshot technique. Only $219.00.

Unless you find a factory bag with factory tag holding a Shikari blank from a reputable source, you aren't getting one - period. Here's the deal ... mandrels alone don't make a blank. You would still need the same carbon material, resin, cutting pattern, finishing methods, etc. to have a similar product in the end. I doubt the identical material and resin could even be found today - things

No problem with the ceramic material. Don't use frames with deposition coatings, they simply don't hold up very well. Stick with high quality stainless, titanium plated or better yet ... full titanium alloy.

X2 on a Flex Coat dryer. BTW, you can have a custom diaphragm built for one ... just call the factory and make the request. Roger did four of them for my quad wall mount unit. Years and years later, it still performs perfectly day in and out.

Drill holes in the tops of your bottles (5/32") and stick them into the hole. When it is time to use product, invert the bottle and pull the needed amount ... like nurses do for injections. After "shooting" the product into your mixing cup, stick the syringe back into the hole ... done. No muss, no fuss, perfect measurement every time.

You absolutely compromise the integrity of the frame material by grinding on it ... period. Rinsing is good, but it doesn't completely stop corrosion. Epoxy can only do so much, it isn't going to totally stop saltwater intrusion. Ask the guide manufacturers what they think about changing the metallurgy of their guide frames with heat and grinding.

It isn't about time ... it is about removing the factory coating and/or changing the metallurgic properties of the frame material. It is possible to wrap without prepping and there are fewer problems with saltwater corrosion down the road. Those building for freshwater, most likely won't have issues with prepped guides being compromised down the road.

Get yourself a nice hand wrapper, the Sully. It breaks down to a tiny little thing, completely portable, easy to stick in a desk drawer, etc. It has an automatic tensioner and works great. IMO, the way to go ... especially for 6-10 rods per year. I have built hundreds of rods on one and never missed a beat. In case you were wondering, I owned a power wrapper and finally dusted it off and sol

St Croix 5C72MM-B = SC5 Ultra High-Modulus Carbon Fiber Scrim = Light Crankbait with Moderate Action St Croix 2C70MF = SC2 Low-Modulus Fiberglass Scrim = Worm Rod with Fast Action The SC5 is a much higher modulus rating, yet it is a slower action by far. Modulus rating is a bad thing to concentrate upon. Look at scrim material, resin content, taper design, etc. they are much more telling

Garry - Modulus rating and action aren't interchangeable and don't necessarily have any correlation. There is much more to a blank than modulus rating. In fact, it is one of the technical specifications that is extremely misused by marketing departments. Jim -

My true internal cost to mail a single page of paper (invoice) in a #10 envelope = $5.00. The only reason it is that low, we do hundreds per day. As stated, there is MUCH more than postage involved. As also stated, you are free to shop at other vendors - there is an entire list to the left side of the screen.

For those encouraging single foot guides in this scenario ... You are talking about a rod/reel combo that will likely weigh in around 30-32 ounces. The difference in weight between single and double footed running guides is such a small fraction of the total combo weight. The difference in strength and durability between those same two frame styles isn't. Tarpon aren't small fish, they p

Absolutely double footed guides. The frame weight difference is miniscule in respect to the total finished rod weight. No need for underwraps. Just use C or D sized thread and you are done. I recommend 10mm running guides and tip.

Ron - If you have the space, spend the money once and get a Flexcoat wall mount quad dryer. They don't make anything close to it in quality AND having it mounted on the wall sure keeps the shop wide open and clear. Otherwise, I would recommend the stand alone dryer from Flexcoat - the motors are great and the chuck system is the best. Custom ID diaphragms can be order if you have special ne

Have you considered the St Croix Offshore Lineup? They aren't nearly as indestructible as Seeker Hercules blanks (of course not, that would be silly) but they are very respectable - especially in the graphite arena. You can see them under SCII Boat Blanks.
