Or business is SO good that they cannot keep up with demand. If business was bad they would have plenty of product sitting around like the car companies do. The fact that their inventory stays sold out and in great demand tells a different story. The past year has seen the Ruger LCP pistols virtually impossible to get. But not because there is no demand or the company is hurting for sales. It

The ultimate "dis" was from All Star, GUSA and Shikari who all left us hanging by quitting blank production altogether. But I do not see the same sort of slurs against them as I do Loomis. Why? If they really cared about custom rod builders they would have stayed in business and continued to make blanks for us would they not? I left out JK Fisher that also dissed the rod builders some y

BINGO!!! Give that man a cigar. If you had published THAT in the magazine the CCS would be in use by every builder and factory under the sun by now. Steps for taking the measurements would have still been needed, but THAT simple explanation would have done all that was needed to be done. It explains everything. I count the oscillations of my CCF readings by shooting the movement for the

I am late to this party but will still add a comment. Please know it is not intended to offend anyone. I use the system and find a great deal of value in it. IMO the ONLY mistake made by you and Dr. Hanneman was that you indeed DID publish all the research that went into the Common Cents System. You should not have done that. It made a simple system look complex. If you had ONLY published the

Presentation grade is supposed to be full of pits and holes. At least unless you can prove differently. The Rodmaker grading scale is the ONLY scale that allows you to see what you are supposed to get before you get it. Any dealer that will not grade by this scale is hiding something. I will no longer buy any grade that does not carry the Rodmaker grade. Anything else is a crap shoot. If yo

Since most other companies have spent years and years copying Fuji guide and seat designs, there is a reason why they are the NAME company. They would not have been able to become a NAME company if they did not produce a great product. If their product was poor none of the others would have bothered copying them or comparing to them. American Tackle is probably just fine but for me, I choose F

You are way, way behind the curve if you think I do not know that. But you are also way, way behind the curve if you think everybody does that. And I never said to treat anyone badly. Just the contrary. I have found very often that those who spend the most time picking your brain for information are those who end up spending the least, buying nothing or going elsewhere if they think they can

The post by James Willard concerns me more than a little. I know we are all looking for the best bargains and prices but in the interim we may find custom rod building going the way of WalMart. This is all my opinion so others are free to disagree with it. I am not attempting to hijack the thread but wanted to remind people of something that may be important. If you call a company like Custom

I would think the butt guide location would have everything to do with the reel and line sizes and nothing to do with rod length.

130. Re: 27X?
I have measured the half dozen rods I have done with the New Guide Concept and which were set up by pure trial and error and much time test casting. All my best efforts seem to have put the choke guide at a distance that ends up being from 25 to 27 times the spool diameter.

Cork is firmer than hypalon or EVA but is less dense. If you are going for a harder or firmer grip you are going about it backwards. More density does not guarantee a firmer or harder grip. I would think that you would want the least amount of weight possible. Not sure but if the foam you have is not hard enough for you then the higher density foam might be the ticket. I believe the website li

Have you thought about shrink tubing over heavy nylon cord? You can wrap the cord diamond fashion and then shrink tube over it. Makes a durable no slip handle.

I like to have them show me what rod they are using now for the type fishing they do. And then I ask what they could change about THAT rod if they could change anything they wanted. From there I know what to build for them.

After the magazine comes out, about half or less of the details will trickle down to the web and then people will start screwing it up and coming here and other places to ask questions.

The original flocking article was in Rodmaker magazine volume 7 issue 4. I think Tom wrote it. Anyone wanting to give it a try may already have that magazine in your possession.

Guides and time to rewrap cost more than line. I would not splice line on a rod that I had used micro guides on. Good idea on rods with larger eyes but maybe not so good if there is any chance you will tear the rings out.

Making your own grips is the natural progression from assembler to custom builder. Buy cheaper cork to start and practice with. Use the good stuff once you get the hang of it. You will neve use preformed grips again.

Hot Shot or Back Bouncing blanks. They will handle big fish with ease but still balance nice and easy in the hand.

There are many ways to accomplish the same thing. But there are also right and wrong answers to SOME things. FI, the other day somebody asked about the New Guide Concept Choker guide and someone told them that it was the same thing as a butt guide. That was ignorance of the technique and could have led someone astray. The person asking the question deserved the correct answer. Fortunately he got

It is a coating and will not come off easily. But it will also tend to hold scales and slime more readily than the regular type and is a little harder to clean.

To that end those fourteen are obviously not missed. And having said that I would disclose that I have been on the receiving end of a warning here myself. Looking back I very much deserved it. Sometimes in the heat of the moment you get hot under the collar and say things you might not have said if you had waited until the next morning to respond. My guess is also that those few that have actu

If such a forum was mainly to answer questions about Batson products what would be different in that and just sending them an E-mail to ask about those products now? The fact that you have to come to THIS forum to ask the question should give you the answer. IMO it will have limited appeal compared to a place like this forum where you have people discussing blanks and components from a mult

Quality is good but they are heavy and a bit whippy in the longer lengths IMO. You may also want to take a look at the Batson Forecast fly rod blanks. They offer great performance at a price that will surprise you.
