Did Anglers Resource discontinue Fuji AT series such as T-ATSG and T-ATTG? These are ultralight single foot guides. Curious. I could not find it on Mudhole, Angler's Workshop, or even Anglers Resource's. I need some size 8s and 16s and can't find it. Thank in advance for any insight.

Go for it. I've been playing around with blanks. Interesting, one of the higher power to weight blanks I tapped has a very dull thud compared to my other blanks. but it's strength to weight ratio is high. So that is a bit confusing. Tapping it, I had anticipated that the blank would be a flabby blank - but it is not....

I just started noodling around for UL blanks (6'6" to 7'6") and looked at a few companies. Going to Lamiglas site, I am surprised at how reduced their offerings seem to be compared to many years ago under Dick Posey. I sent a few email queries out a week ago and never got a reply. Curious how the company is doing. Anyone know? I noticed that they are not sponsors of this site an

Thanks all! Norm. Thanks. I got the titanium Black Minima guide (after I posted my query) off Mudhole's website. The Titanium frame 4L is listed at .068 grams. I weighed 10 Fuji Ti Torzites at size 3.5. Both guides have the same ID. Torzites came up to .04 grams. I am surprised and am not sure if perhaps Mudhole had erroneous data. The Fuji Ti Torzites size 3.0 was .025 grams. Just FY

Thanks all. Yes, permagloss is light, thin, and strong. Quick question Ben. Have you found doing guide placement tests to make a substantive difference? In the UL world, I've not detected much difference. Basically I place the guide via a static test so that the blank loads evenly, and also the Fuji guide placement for the three guides closest to the reel. I've also got to cast a bunch

Roger and Ben, thank you kindly for your replies. Roger...I do assume that you are making good humor. I intend to cast a 1 gram jig 50+ feet on the rod....don't think thre's any cane pole type set up which can do that. Ben, interesting comment on the Seymo. Never heard of anyone using a preserver and sealer as a final coat. Did you actually try that? The good thing with personal rods

Herb, What is the smallest size of the running guides on the REC? I can use that. I already have the weight on the Fuji Ti Torzites. Thanks Herb! Ben Belote, thanks. Agree. with my wraps, you can still feel the individual thread physically. I'm thinking of going one better by wrapping with unicorn hair and not even using any finish at all.....:)

Yes, I am an admitted weight weenie when it comes to guides. I picked up an an extreme ultralight light blank - my guess is along the power of 1-2 wt fly blank recently and need the lightest guides possible for it. Comparing same ring opening size, what guides would be the lightest? If figure if anyone knows, it would be here on rodbuilding. At this point my guess would be the PacBa

I guess another question is whether boiling cork for 30 minutes harm or weaken the cork..... LOL, anyone knows? After all, it is organic and lots of organic substances do not do well boiled. Thanks.

Thank you ALL for being so kind with your time and replying. To clarify, I can remove the cork grip from the blank, so I am now left with a cork grip that has Titebond 3 gluing the rings together. I don't have a bottle of Titebond 3 with me anymore or I would just do the test and no do my query here. :) For sure I can also go purchase another bottle if I need to. Dan, I am very very grat

Sorry to ask such a basic question. I have a cork grip that is installed on a rod glued on with Titebond 3. Does anyone know that if I BOIL the grip, whether the bond will break including between the cork rings so that everything will fall apart? I don't want to try unless I know it may work. This cork grip has my 'best of the best' flor and is really pretty special. I'd like to reuse it af

I believe that mono guide layout will work fine for braid of the same pound test. BUT braid layout can use smaller first guide and be fine. That reduces weight and may make the braid slightly more efficient in casting distance due to less drag from unnecessarily large oscillations. Just my belief on this Q.

Greetings Tom, Hope this is not redundant and an acceptable post but I searched all posts this year for 'FS', 'For Sale', 'Buy/Sell' and do not see any posts on this. Thank you for reactivating the Buy/Sell component of this forum. You had posted that it needed to be worked to run and really, you get nothing out of it other than serving the community. Thank you!

David, respect what you have experienced. However, I will note that I have fished UL right next to a few guys who were all running BFS casting at 1/32 to 1/16 and they were doing beautifully - outfishing most others I was with. These are very experienced BFS fisherman and I don't remember hearing anyone of the backlashing all morning that I was with them. They were landing quite a few trout.

FYI, there are those are into the BFS (Bait Finesse System) baitcasters who cast 1/32 oz (or about 1 gram) for over 50+ feet distance. That's not too far off the Ul outfits. Some have cast as light as 1/64th oz with bait casting. One of the spools from Japan is 4+ gram, or about 1/7th oz. I'm itching to try one....:)

Interesting discussion. I was wondering exactly this - why Micros never took off even for whom they should - the ultralight rod crowd.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I consider my question answered....:) Roger, thanks for elaborating. Robert, forgot about the plate reel seats - I have a bunch in my basement- thanks for reminding me. Everyone else, THANKS for taking time to reply. As always, I'm grateful for how kind this forum has been.

Thanks Tom. Roger, 'smallest reel seat' is different from 'no reel seat just as 'a smallest person' is different from 'no person at all'. LOL. .

What is the reel seat (for a spinning reel) with the smallest outer diameter? Thanks.

Thanks Everyone. Tom - all your comments make immediate sense. Understand. Regarding flex, it is a matter of degree. All rods flex to the handle, but fast action rods flexes less proportionally to the entire flex of the blank. Phil, I hear you. That's what I think too. However, there are a lot comments by anglers that fast action rods land and control the fish faster - with the sam

I am sure this is quite elementary but I can't figure it out. Two rods of the same power, identical lines, reels, lures - and same drag setting.. The only difference is that one rod is fast and the other bends all the way to the handle. WHY is it that the fast rod seem to control and land the fish more quickly? If the drag is the same, is not the fish feeling the same pressure? Should

Thanks Mark. yup - have to get all the parts lined up. I ordered some low cost BFS rigs to fish with first to get a sense of what they feel like. Then I'll start building for a higher end rig. Thanks.

Ben, a low cost BFS casting reel that can cast 2 grams (1/14th ounce) reliably is the Tsurinoya XF50. It comes in left and right handers, and can be had from @#$%& for under $50. By all accounts, very high bang for the buck. It can't go down to 1 gram though. Yes, I realize that spiral for short rods may not make as much sense - but I'll take 1% gain. :) I'm not always practical and one o

Lance, huge thanks. Bingo - that's what I needed. Invaluable. Ben - Why UL casting? Just to try it out. There are proponents who talk about much better control in tight quarters, more accurate casts, faster recasts due to single handed cast (no opening bail with the off hand), no line twist, lighter overall rig (a couple of baicast are 4.5 ounce in weight), better sensitivity, and a more so

Herb, you use a single KB as the choke guide on 'SPINNING" rods? Isn't that too low to the blank? Or does it actually work just fine as far as casting distance? Thanks.

Thanks Everyone. Nah, Mark - did not scare me off at all. IN a bit of a medical situation with a family member and still at the hospital. Just checking in for a quick read and be off again. 1. Huge thanks to all. As always - very grateful for this board/forum. 2. Reels used - varies from low end Tsurinoya to upper end which is probably the ultimate BFS in the Shimano 16 Aldebaran

One more super basic question - sorry about this - as I'm going to attempt my first casting rod ever. Up to this point, I've only built spinning rods. I'm very comfortable with my guide spacing etc. Howevver, don't have a clue with casting rods. I want to build some UL (BFS) rods for baitcasting. Lines will be no more than 6 lbs, and more likely 2-4 lbs. I will also spiral wrap. Since

Thank you everyone for chiming in. And Robert, as usual, your knowledge is quite detailed. Thanks everyone! Which leads me to one more question. If I want to build UL casting rods that will never see anything more than 6 lbs test (so drag set at maybe 2 lbs max), can I just use KTTG? Thanks!
