unless goldenwitch has other options available not shown on their web site, they are more than i'm looking for, although, i REALLY like what they offer. the fly rods i'm building are still "test" builds so i want to hold off on the premium reel seats until i'm ready to begin considering the rods first rate." and custom takle supply is my alluded to source for the cork insert ree

i am building a few small stream graphite fly rods, generally 3 and 4 weights for myself and close friends. i managed to buy from @#$%& a landmark black aluminum cap and ring fly reel seat with a walnut insert, basically their Springwater model. i would like to get 1 or 2 more cap and ring reels seats (not necessarily landmark but they would work) but cannot seem to find any leads as to where to

if you have a stylish little girl in the house, grab some of her little pony tail vinyl bands when she's not looking (they can be found at stores like target). i used this the other night although i have some guide foot adhesive on order. eric fresno, ca.

some have advocated a full wells when suffering from tendinitis (or that weird maniform grip), i know someone who suffered from it and found the FW more comfortable. eric fresno, ca.

the older forecast blank color isn't really blue. more blue-green. i LIKE blue. i DON'T like the older forecast color. but that's just me. could be a great deal! eric fresno, ca.

thanks gerry and joe. for this rod and the next 2 probably, i am using metal tubes with a nice wrinkled finish for a more classic fly tube look (got a good deal too), and so the incorporated dividers wouldn't work, but in the future i think i would use those. i searched (after i posted my request) and found a thread or two talking about the same. if anyone has any other leads, please feel fre

i'm in need of a rod bag for a 9 foot, four piece fly rod, probably a few more of various sizes in the coming months. i've made one myself and it came out surprisingly well, but i think i'd like to forgo that process this time. my temple fork outfitters professional rod came with a nice dark brown, almost suede/velvety material, trimmed with black, slick insides. do any of the sponsors at this s

are you using the older forecast "blue" blanks or the latest forecast blue blank? the former is more of a blue-green or teal color. i wrapped one of the older blue-green/teal colored ones with gudebrod Blue Dun thread and without CP, it darkened to match perfectly if that's what you might be looking for. i included silver as trim wraps. looked nice. subdued. one thing i experimente

can you give us some more information adrian? have you fished before? "3-6 wt trout rods" leads me to believe you either fly fish or want to. do you currently have any rods? what type of water do you plan to fish? what's your budget? eric fresno, ca.

ok, i'll weigh in... since i'm almost in the same situation. i just started "assembling" graphite fly rods. what are you interested in fishing? the first one i made all the mistakes people alluded to. that's fine, it was a cheap forecast blank and will probably never land a fish due to no use. the secnd rod came out much better and i hope the third and fourth to be even better tha

tom without a doubt. in fact, i've run into little discussions, or rather comments made elsewhere that when it comes to graphite rods, some call it "assembly," not true building as in the case of selecting culms for bamboo and hand planing, etc. the cedar sounds very very interesting actually. eric fresno, ca.

thanks keith. you're not the first to recommend that one. the Sig V is on my short list, but like many blanks, i have never waved one, let alone fish it. i might have a chance in april to see one up close (i hope). what IS it about those odd length measurements like 7'-9" or 8'-4" that turn me on? did i just type that? sorry, thought it was in my head... eric fresno, ca.

tom... would i have to wear 19th century period clothing as well??? Hmmmm. just another reason for ordering back issues, you tease! sheesh. gotta get up and order a few issues soon. thanks for the suggestion. cedar is a relatively light wood, right? by the way, when i mentioned bamboo, i intend, at this point anyway, to buy a blank from one of our modern craftsmen, perhaps his/her own pr

winter time is terrible. i thumb through catalogs, slowly work on fly rod builds number 3 and 4, stand out on the sidewalk past midnight just to see how a partially made rainforest 7'-9" 3 weight rod feels while running through the casting motion. neighbors look at me strangely the next day... i am currently building the above-mentioned rainforest rod; at this point i have only the handle

i received your color forecast catalog a month or two ago with separate price list bookklet of blanks and prices. has anything changed? i did not receive a catalog of any sort with color photos of rod blanks or a retailer list. perhaps that's what i'm missing. the forecast color catalog is FANTASTIC and an incredible aid for this newbie rodbuilder. it lives beside my bed, on my sofa, in my

i think in tandem, we have two very useful databases at our disposal. keep in mind, the CCS is reliant on rodbuilder's input (or so it appears to me). the more, the merrier. ;-) eric fresno, ca.

unrelated to your rod building exploration, i just wanted to add that a sharp blade can be much safer than a dull one.. unles you're my mother , in which case either is equally dangerous. ;-) us sharp blades always when cutting, whether rodbuilding or creating culinary classics in the kitchen. eric fresno, ca.

i clean my factory made rod (temple fork outfitters fly rod) over the kitchen sink, with a kitchen scouring pad, blue nylon scrub surface stuff on one side of a sponge and a little liquid detergent/dish washing soap. cleans up real nice. even dirty, it looks fine. pitted a bit, but i don't mind that. i'll have to try sealing my next rod's cork, see what happens. eric fresno, ca.

keep in mind, i'm not recommending, just suggesting. i've never done this myself. i imagine afterwards you'll have to treat the wood somehow, make it match the glass/sheen and sealing characteristics of the original area. good luck, let us know what you decide to do and how it worked. eric fresno, ca.

are you talking about the wood insert for the reel seat? how about wood filler??? usually in a putty form, sometimes looks like a crayola crayon, might work. i have never done this and it's been years since i've worked with wood. eric fresno, ca.
