I have an Aftco aluminum reel seat with gold hoods, and in the process of rewrapping this rod. I would like to know if it is possible to paint and seal the reel seat hoods to match the new color scheme of the rod. Maybe mask them, spray them and put some kind of sealer on them for durability.? Any input or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you, Tom

I have a salt water rod with an all aluminum reel seat. Due to my stupidity the reel seat needs to be rotated about 3/4" or 10 degrees to be inline with all of the guides, which are in perfect alignment. The seat was installed with 24 hour epoxe. Can I heat the seat to try to soften the epoxe and then rotate it? I dont want to take the rod apart and then rewrap it unless I have to. What wou

I am stripping a rod for a re wrap and there was no CP used so the epoxe goes through the thread to the blank. I may want to relocate a couple of guides and the blank will need a lite sanding to remove all traces of old epoxe. After sanding and removing all old epoxe can I use a product like Krylon clear lacquer or spray Varathene to restore the gloss to the blank in these areas? What would you u

Can I use color preserver on NCP thread with no Ill effects? The NCP will be the base wrap and I plan on using regular nylon thread and color preserver as the top or guide wrap and thought it may be easier to use CP on everything. Any input is appreciated. Thank you, Tom

Getting ready to start my next project. It is a salt water blank which is black and I will be using a lot of white thread mostly size A for base wraps and trim bands. I plan on using NCP white and about 3 coats of Chroma Seal color preserver. Will this be enough to keep the white threads white or are there some further precautions I can or should take to ensure keeping them as white as possible

I am running pretty low on my Flex Coat hi build and I have a rod I would like to finish. After the Flex Coat has cured, can I put a coat or two of L S Supreme or Glass coat on top to finsh the rod? If so, how long should I wait for the Flex Coat to cure before adding another brand on top? This is just on the butt wrap in the decal area. Thanks again, Tom

I am currently building a salt water spinning rod (30lb). Seeing as how the guides will be on the bottom and may experience more pulling force than a conventional rod when the rod is fully loaded. In your opinion would it be best to place 2 wraps over the guide foot or would 1 wrap be sufficient? Any input is appreciated. Tom

Gentlemen: I am working on my second marbled rod, and the surface is not perfectly smooth, however I got the resuls I wanted being that the marbeling stood out well from the base coat and not everything blended together which is what I didnt want. A couple coats of clear epoxe helps. Is it that important that the finish is not perfectly flat as long as the desired effects are received?

Gentlemen: I am getting ready to marbel a rod using gold as the primary marbel color. I am currently using Testors gold but would like a little more gold flash to match my gold thread inlays. Could I add a little metallic gold glitter to my mix? Or there any other brands of gold pigment on the market that would give me my desired effect? Any ideas or input are appreciated. Thank you, Tom

I want to marbel between the guide feet on double foot guides (15 lb. inshore rod) . I figure I can: a. Install the guides and marbel the area under the guides being careful to avoid the guide wraps. b. Marbel the entire area under the guides and guide feet (like a base wrap) and then install and wrap the guides on top of that. c. Mask off and marbel the area under the center of the gu

I want to marble under the guides on a double foot guide. This is a light saltwater rod and I always lay down a base wrap on my saltwater rods. I am thinking , lay down a coat of marbled epoxe ( as my base wrap ) and place the guides on top of that and then wrap the guide feet with my contrasting colors and inlays and then a coat or two of epoxe finish to finish it off. Will this work ? Any b

Some of the first rods I have built are not very exciting or professional and I was wondering why I couldnt scuff the butt wraps up real good and go over the existing butt wrap with some marbeling or whatever. There by updating the looks of the rod and eliminating having to remove all of the thread and epoxe on the existing wrap. I know it is probably not the best way to do it, but will it work

Just a couple more marbeling questions. 1. Can I use a metallic thread "a" as a base coat color and add my marbeling on top of the thread or will the thread soak up too much epoxe and not be effective or should I just plan on using a pigment as the base color? 2.Can I use testors paint for all of my marbeling ? Any do's or dont's are appreciated. Thanks again, Tom

Gentlemen: I am about to embark on my first marbeling project and I am not sure of the colors I have chosen. The blank is black and i am thinking of a black base coat with gray and silver marbeling or gray base with black and silver marbeling or any combination of these colors. I have never seen a photo of this combo so I am not sure if these colors would work. What is your opinion of these

Gentlemen: I have decided my next build will be a marbeled rod. I am still reading and trying to comprehend the technique.I was wondering if it is possible to lay down a base wrap of either metallic or nylon thread, put on a coat or two of epoxe and then marbel my accent colors on top of that base wrap? Will this technique work ? Will it look crappy ? Thank you for any input. Tom

Gentlemen: After seeing many nice photos of marbled rods I think I am ready to give it a try. But my question is on a salt water rod can I marbel under the guide in place of a base wrap (double foot guides) and then wrap the guide feet with regular thread in a complimentary color? Any input is appreciated. Tom

Gentlemen: I have about 3 coats of epoxe on a butt wrap and it appears as if the last coat or two has about 3 or 4 small areas where the epoxe was repelled by possible contamination from my fingers or something. These areas are very small and about 2 mm in diameter. How can I clean the area prior to the next coat? Scuff a little with a scotch brite pad? Any cleaner that may work? Or just k

I want to add a couple of decals to rods that are already epoxied and have seen a little use. The existing epoxe is in excellent shape. Can I just apply the decals and give the decal area a couple coats of epoxe ? Should I do any thing special to make sure the epoxe adheres to the existing epoxe ? Should I CP over the decal before applying epoxe ? I am using decal connection water slide decal

Gentlemen: Getting ready to epoxe my work and was wondering if there is a superior or faster way to epoxe about 10" of cross wraps. I currently use a brush, apply epoxe and brush it horizontally and it takes a while, any many coats due to the wrap soaking up a lot of epoxe (no CP) Any streamlined methods you can suggest? Thanks again, Tom

Gentlemen: I have a Diawa BG 90 spinning reel with very little use on it, and I have an off brand or import blank. The only markings on the blank are CSW 80 MH.It feels like it is about a 30# blank and 8' long. My thought is to cut the blank down to about to about 6 1/2' to 7' (from the butt end) and make me a So Cal salt water spinning set up. Casting should not be a problem because of the s
