Bartered with a fellow rodbuilder thread for thread. I received this nice looking brownish thread made by an unknown manufactorer. Decided to try NO CP for the first time and the threads came out with this unusual "grainey" texture to them. I like it alot because the colors match the wood grip quite well.

I finally got around to building a steady rest for the rod wrapper. Thanks go out again to Greg Pennell for the instructions on the wrapper. It is attractive, very funtional, and best of all saves mucho $$$ over the commercially available models. My hopes are that this option will allow me to attain perfection when coating guides. It is constructed using 7 phillips head gold screws, solid red

Mocked it up and I like the look of the new Batson reelseat components that I received from CTS. I like the carbon fiber / woven graphite insert, but will swap it out for a insert that I'll turn tonite made from the lighter wood that shall remain nameless because I misplaced the sales slip listing the species! The front hood will be recessed as well.

Contrary to popular demand, the rough turned "what's it going to be" that I posted a few days ago will not become a peppercorn grinder! Here it is in an almost finished state. A couple different angles to pick up the grain for you guys. I'm not sure I'm completely happy with the small size of the fighting butt in relation to the grip size. It'll be glued up on a removeable

Glued up some contrasting wood pieces and couldn't wait until they dried! 24 hours later I turned the stock round and here's what I'll begin shaping into a grip. Plans call for Batson inletted skeleton, the lighter wood as the reelseat insert, and a fighting butt that essentially will be the wood above cut in half and shaped..

I'm getting better at keeping the overrun to a minimum. The trick? Taking your time and a steady hand. Of which, I struggle to possess both (or is it either?)!

Working on a 8'6" 4Pc 5Wt for a buddy of mine to use in Wyoming/Montana. He wanted basic and I didn't. So here is the finished oversized grip with bit of razzle-dazzle instead. I'm gonna put a few more coats of teak oil on the fighting butt and reelseat to get the color closer to Andy's exotic in the middle of the grip.

I decided to re-turn the fighting butt and reelseat insert. I believe the new versions fit the theme of the handles better

RS USA IST1562F Green Blank. Turned the cork and decided to add some black walnut. Turned the fighting butt and insert and they came out OK. Round two will produce better results, IMO.

Part one of the IST1562F "Mean Green" build.
Combination of rubberized cork, green burl, Andy's burnt, brown burl, and regular cork. The fighting butt and reelseat insert may end up being turned out of black walnut. I haven't decided yet.

Using a size 8 recoil single foot guide for the tip top on a Rainshadow 1562F float rod. What a pain the small wraps become as you near the tip. Picture taken by client after the rod was used a bit, thus it isn't as clean as I delivered it.

54. The New Shop
Well, the wife finally kicked me out of the front room. I wonder why? So, my new residence is a space in the basement. Of course, I wasn't moving without a bribe....thus the brand new workbench and peg board back. If the sale advertisment runs again on this combo, I may just buy another one.

Using the Turncrafter Pro I got from Santa, I completed this cork grip for a 13' RainShadow Steelhead Float Rod. Lengths of cork grip is what I call "BC" style or inverted with the longer foregrip and short butt section.

Forecast 6'6" 2pc 2Wt. Simple trimbands with blue thread. Notice the difference in the thread. All guides were CP'd, the decorative thread banding was done without CP.
