First time attendee to the expo. Am very excited to learn new things and view new products and meet some new friends. But I do require good amounts of fuel and lubrication to keep the machinery running up to speed. Any suggestions on some good eateries within walking distance or a short drive of the expo center would be appreciated. I prefer the tavern/sandwhich experience over the places that re

Thanks to all for the info. I thought #16 would work fine, just wanted some reassurance from the Board.

This may seem like a dumb question, but I am going to ask it anyway. On most quality factory musky rods the first guide is a #20. In reading some guide spacing charts the first guide is a #20. I have also read about and used double foot Fuji Alconite guides for musky rods that seem to work pretty well. These are spiral wrapped of course.
Here is my question. Does the first guide HAVE to be #2

For Tom or those that have built there own demo tool;
I have read and reread the article (RM Vol. 8. #4). One of the biggest problems I have in selling spiral wrapped musky rods is educating the long time musky hunter in that the spiral wrap can make a difference.
I have built several "shop rods" from the most popular blanks that I loan out for use by potential customers. However,

Any suggestions on some downrigger blanks for Lake Michigan trolling?
Prefer they have a litte if not a lot of glass in them for durability. I appreciate the info.

Put a Struble up locking reel seat on an 8 wt fly rod. Has a fixed cork fighting butt.
Angler states that the single locking ring backs off while fishing. Any fixes for that?
Can I get another, second ring from Struble, rip the butt off and built another butt cap and then have two rings on it. Or is there a quick fix method I am not aware of? Rather have it done right but he is fishing the rod

I "average" 30 to 40 customs per year and repair 80-100 rods per year.

Yeah, what Michael said!
Beat him with a butt section of a broken musky rod no less for premature disclosure.
Can you take a pill for premature disclosure by the way?

Starting to organize a bass fishing and possibly a muskie fishing tourney in Central Wisconsin to raise mone for several area high school athletic programs.
I need some cool clip art of bass, musky, and even some panfish that can be
incorporated into a t-shirt for the contestants.
there will be corporate sponsors so this logo may be used a couple years in a row. Please post location where I

Ole,
I vacation fish the Ft. Myers area about twice a year, 5 to 6 days straight per trip. As stated before I would strongly suggest a guide at the start of your trip. Contact Capt. Rob Modys at soulmate charters. He is not only a great guide but also Orvis endorsed fly fishing guide. He got us into 3-4 pound lady fish with fly rods last year. We caught about 30 in an hour! Very good with reds a

Hey Bob,
Have you ever had any problem with the stain rubbing off, running when it gets wet, , staining your hands, etc?
Now that I have seen the photo that you posted (thank you for doing so) I would really like to try some trim rings inserts with stain.
Looks very sharp

Thanks everyone with your input. I have researched all of your suggestions and now feel like I can turn out a decent grouper rod on the first try.

Hey Phil,
From what I can see it looks good. Just a suggestion you might want to put a few contrasting threads along the edges to make it stand out more from the blank. White, light blue, silver, would all help outline the wrap better.

I am going to do some grouper fishing in a couple of weeks and thought I would build a rod to use and then give to the Captain as a thank you for taking me out. It is going to be a multi-day trip. I plan on building it spiral wrap, EVA foam grips, Fuji Boat style reel seat.
Since I never built one before I could use some help and suggestion in the following areas:
Blank length, brand, power

Oh yeah, one more point to make. With these blank you can see the vibration that the crankbait makes while watching the tip section of the blank.
When the tip top on the rod is not showing a visable vibration, then the crank bait is fouled with seaweed. Very helpful thing to have and not all blanks do this.
