When I apply CP I only put it on the thread, not the blank itself. I then run the epoxy just past the thread and onto the blank about 1/8" No problems in many years of doing this.

Lots of rods get broken on tarpon this way. Lots of them. I think this is why most factory rods no longer have the super long fighting foregrip WAY up the rod shaft.

I've seen it on two different vehicles, but did not run them down. I-95. Assume they are fellow rod builders. Kind of neat.

It's something we've needed for a long time, it just took somebody to take the bull by the horns and do it, not to mention to spend the money to get it into worldwide distribution. The potential for this thing is huge!

Right, it's sort of like assuming that two different blanks from two different companies must be one and the same because they are the same color.
But even still, I think there are a few things that probably are the same product and just repackaged by smaller vendors. Not in the case of this epoxy, but a few other things probably.

158. Very Good
My trip to the PO this morning was a good one. New Rodmaker was in the box. They are always good but I thought this one was the best ever. Twice as many articles as I'm used to. Lots of variety. I also like the fact that the editor (Tom) is a rod builder with some credentials. When you see that the editor can do that kind of work and at the level he talks and writes about and it lends additional

Is there actually a ceramic ring inside of a 1.5mm guide? If these are measured outside to outside, how could you even get a ring in there? The opening would be a pin hole. Not doubting, just wondering.

I would guess that if you made the carbon skin thick enough it was be just as hard as say, a graphite rod blank? Sounds tough enough for me.
Back to the original question, I have some rods with graphite TN handles and don't find them slick at all. I don't think you need to worry about it and I'd fish with your rod and grips a bit before I'd start sticking tape or anything on them. Find out how

161. Re: fair comparisons
Suitability for marked line weight isn't really an issue. Any rod will cast any line weight and that's something I have come to believe. The distance it will do it at though will be different based on the power of each respective rod. I agree with Tom that these have never been apples to apples comparisions and were only intended to lure consumers into buying a new rod. "Win the race on Sund

Sounds like its something they don't stock. I have a little bit of a bone to pick with companies that offer products that they don't stock. If they don't routinely keep it in stock they should list it on their website as a non stocking item and mention that it could take a few weeks to get it. If they didn't mention that then I think you have already waited too long. Cancel the order and find ano

If you have access to one of them, why not run the common cents numbers on it and then try to match it up to something with similar numbers? I'm guessing that the Loomis model must be super thin walled or something and that's why you can't fish it but the length, action, power and all that should be available in something else that would be very close.

Raymond, Did you sit in on David's seminar? I did and can honestly say that for the first time I really do understand how weaving works on a whole different level. The presentation he gave and the illustrations in his VisWeave tutorial make it pretty simple. Then the program makes it easy to design your own patterns and I think this is what's important. I don't think Ken said anything about the

I missed the renewal deadline but when I renewed I got the latest issue with the grip stuff in it. Maybe you will too. Good article. Nice of Andy and Tom to share it. They could have made a lot of money just selling those grips IMO.

167. SQUEEK-A, SQUEEK-A?
Last week I finished up two Batson RX7 blanks for myself. I built them in the Simple Spiral fashion and got to fish them today. They perform flawlessly and I even took one 26 pound Striped Bass! But,one of them makes a squeeking noise every time it flexes. Both are finished with Flex Coat lite build, three thin coats. Why would one squeek and one not squeek? Doesn't make sense to me.

Question, if someone were to arrive a bit early say on Friday afternoon and wish to come into the Showplace just to help out, can they get in? Not to buy anything but just to socialize or help out?

I'm the person this post was probably aimed it. Tom, sorry for the E-mail I just knew something was wrong with the product or how to go about making the darn stuff. I took the advice to heart and spent the evening reverting back to the original instructions. All is well now. I have some good cores and will try turning them this weekend.

Does anyone really know how large the custom rod building hobby is? As I look around the \'net it would seem to be as active and large as anything going in the woodworking trade or with things like archery or knifemaking. Do most custom rod builders sell their rods to the public or just build rods for themselves and friends? Just curious.

I commend you for allowing Dave to have his say. I also think you did the right thing in taking down the other thread once so many felt the need to assault Dave. I also thought he was way off base but people don\'t need to behave like that. Sometimes the only way to stop it is to just removed the entire topic.

I read that entire string several times. Like most people I very much disagreed with the stuff Dave was spouting. His comments flew in the face of what so many of us know to be true from many years of using these type wrapping methods.
I commend Tom for letting Dave have his say and also commend him for taking the thread down when people started to flame Dave. One thing about this site is tha

I have the Clemens books and love them. But we all need to remember that Mr. Clemens was a businessman first and foremost. He may have coined the term about "learn by sharing" but in order to have him share you had to pay. His component business was operated for profit, his books were sold for profit and his organization required a fee to join and then you had to submit information in o

I think everyone at Kistler knows who Rich is and that he came up with these ideas. Wouldn't have been much problem for them have said "Rich Forhan developed the idea and we adopted it and were one of the first to bring it to the market".

176. Custom Rod Rip Off
I got a couple of issue of this Bass produced Fishing Tackle Dealer magazine from a buddy at a local tackle shop. I was going through it and noticed how everybody and brother in the bass rod business is moving to split-grip/no-forgrip rods and all claiming how they introduced this design to the market. Then I saw a Q&A they had there where somebody from Kistler made out like they had invented

177. Re: ICRBE Payments
Tom you are missing the point that I think some might be making. You and your event have rocked the boat! Even going way way way back to the old Dale Clemens Rodcrafter seminars, nobody ever got paid except the people putting on things on. The seminar presenters had to pay the regular admission fee too, just like they have to do at some events still held today. They have to PAY UP in order to HEL

I stopped on the way home and bought an Italian Sub and a large soft drink. $7.84 or about what it costs to gain admission to the big show. The admission fee to the ICRBE is a joke. It's an afterthought. For all intents and purposes this event is free and yet priceless at the same time. Nothing else like it for sure.

179. Re: tiger wrap
Interesting thing is that the bottom colors do not really affect the final color of the overall wrap. I know this was covered in Rodmaker, but sometimes you have to try it to believe it. I've used B&W on the ones I've done but I may try the black and yellow on the bottom for even more contrast.
