I think I will try a set of the AA roller guides. Will these hold up to heavy drags and 200 lb yellowfin tuna stand up style?

I just taped on a set of Aftco roller guides to a super seeker blank ss-ctsf63xxxh. The look heavy and feel heavy on this blank. Are these guides a good match to this blank? I am using a 50 SDS avet reel with 500 yards of 130 hollow spectra with a 100 lb mono top shot. I may be using the loop to loop wind on leaders or leaders tied directly to the spectra and also running up the leader inside o

I bought the Turbo Guides (NITR) and just taped them onto the blank. Placed the tip top (NITT) on and it looks way out of place as far as the color. The style matches just fine though the tip is so much darker. Is there a guide out there that matches the titanium turbo guides better? If I was to use the darker NITT tip top the rod looks like the tip has been replaced. I was thinking about

I have been using drywall tape to make 1 inch wide bushing for my Aftco slip on reel seats. I am about to build a couple of stand up rods that will see some heavy drags therefore some heavy pressures. Should I increase the size of the bushing? I usually use 4 bushings I was thinking that I may use a two inch bushing and then a 1 inch wide on each end of the reel seat. I also will be using some gr

Maderia has a double sided thread storage similar to the plano models but like I said it is double sided and holds twice the thread. I am sure that anyone that carries Maderia thread can get them.

Hi guys Any suggestions for a set of sic guides for a super seeker CJBF70H 7' length. This rod will be used for pitching live baits and casting Wahoo bombs and other wahoo jigs. Also this rod will be matched up with a Avet HX reel and 50 lb line. This rod will be used on a 15 day long range trip next year.

I have a Calstar 6465XXh blank with a butt outside diameter of 1.156. I have a Aftco gimbal that has a inside dia. of 1.125. Seems that is the largest size of Aftco gimbal that they make. The blank is to big. Can I sand down the blank to fit the gimbal? Or should I try to bore the gimbal this would make the gimbal walls thin. Would sanding the butt of this blank weaken the blank. The wall thickne

Braid is the norm on long range trips out of san diego for cow yellowfin tuna (200 +lbs). Braid put on the reel properly will not dig into the reel. Also spectra braids come in hollow core that allows for wind on leaders or mono topshots of various lengths. The extra line capacity that braid gives a smaller reel makes a small reel more versatile. It also leads to less tackle because you can chang

The Rod is IGFA regulation trolling 130lb 7 feet long. The amount of line varied to how deep I wanted it to run. Never kept a line count on it though when I started catching grouper on it I knew I was to deep. Number of roller guides is seven counting the top.

I have used a Penn 9|0 with dacron backing and monel wire line on a Lamiglas 130lb regulation trolling rod with a Uni-butt for a #24 planer for years. It is a heavy rod and it barely bends with the planer set. We had the planer inline with a skirted ballyhoo or 5 1/2" silver spoon and would leave the rod in the rod holder and just crank it in from there. Not very sporting but worked very we

Hi Greg I bought mine from Mud Hole and the extra rod stands with rollers from Renzetti. I have it mounted on a Red Oak board 8' long and with several coats of polyurethane. This helps with moving it around and not having to break the joints down. Do a search for Renzetti on this site as well as visit Renzetti website (link to the left) for photos. Renzetti is the Rolls Royce of wrappers there

For turning wood you will need the power of a lathe. You can shape cork with a power wrapper just makes a mess over a wrapping machine when it comes time to wrap those threads. Even a good vacuum system used dust will still find its way into your epoxy finishes. I turn my handles and rods on a dedicated lathe (Jet) that I move outside then clean it the best I can before I bring it back in my shop

I wouldn't mind a price increase, the show would still be great deal at $10. This would also would help with change at the entrance. It seems like they always needed ones and fives. Enjoyed the show for my third year. Keep up the good work Tom and many thanks...

I use MAX Seal. Ken Preston told us about this in a seminar at the show this year. I bought it by the quart. It wasn't very expensive and dries fast and seems to do a great job so far here is a link.

One for the good guys. I took a friend of mine with me this year to the show this year that is interested in learning to build rods. While at the Custom Tackle Supply booth he was checking out a cork grip and broke it. Guess he was trying to check the action must have been extremly fast. He could have just put it back into the bin but he went ahead and paid for it because that was the right thing

Put the gimbal and mark the edge onto the blank. Then wrap masking tape stop collar about a 1/16 of a inch back from that line towards the butt end of the blank if you are using eva or hypalon materials. The gimbal is the last thing that I put onto the rod this leaves me the butt end of the rod to grip with my power wrapper. I wouldn't think it would be nessary if you are hand wrapping though. Gu

I would think it would work and be ok but as the boat pitches and have to take a step back to catch balance I would have to be aware of the guide. I think that I will go ahead and wrap one and try to fish it. I look forward to answering those questions about the acid wraps. I just got my renzetti delivered today and looking forward to putting it to use. As soon as I figure out how it is put toget

Standing up leaning against the rail for stability in a rolling and pitching sea while on drift or anchor kind of eliminates going to the gut and hanging on too. With the rod under the arm also gives a little freedom in grabbing onto something while pinching the butt of the rod under the arm and holding onto the reel handle. One thing that I forgot is the Party Boats in NC and SC sometimes use el

Their correct in wanting the butt to extend past the arm pit. Especially if the rod has a gimbal. Even with a gimbal cover the butt will dig something fierce into the armpit. While cranking on the reel the rod moves back and fourth creating a sawing action on the arm pit. Most Party boat rods will not have a gimbal butt and with my experince it is nice if one is available when needed. East Coast

To late for the extra set of O rings I just got through ordering the lathe from mudhole and rod supports from renzetti. I did think about the extra wheels and O rings. But once I have my lathe I will be able to turn the wheels out of delrin and O rings are easy to come by. Thanks for the info.
