Got my fingers really oily from my nose, pressed them into thread and CP'd left half, finish over all. Hard to capture with cam, but CP'd area has same degree of lightening that the finished area does over the oil. All other oils tried had similar effect.

How I spent my weekend. Customer designed using pics of my earlier one as a base. She will be giving it as a gift to her guy. This one was fun. I wish all customers were as wonderful to work with as she was.

Looks good on rifles, so why not a reel seat? Screwed around a bit tonight and ended up with this.

Two pics of the sun fading test that Myles did. Interesting results on different threads combined with different finishes.

Threading my trusty netcraft single spool tube tensioner was getting tedious so I upgraded it with $20 of hardware and a piece of broken rod.

Small rod for my son when he was 9. He chose all the components and designed the butt and guide wraps all on his own. My contribution was the winding check, which is the only thing that looks like it was designed by a 9 year old.

Some experiments on a fly rod for myself. Not my best work but the butt is 4 strips of green pheasant tail. Wraps are R/A poly with Sulky metallic trims and on the stripper, some Gudebrod green silk. Butt has CP, guides do not. The silk basically turned black.

A boy's first rod. His grandpa had me build it for him. Slapped a Zebco Micro 11 and he's been thrilled ever since. A lot of fun to make.

+1 on what the Captain said. The Batsons do a lot for our craft that they don't have to. I wish I could attend.

If it is for a customer, do what they want. If it is for yourself, do what you want. Personally, I don't marry a rod and reel. I change reels like I change socks. Is it correct? Only to me. Steve does it a lot, but I will agree with him that I don't find the plate seats comfortable.

Good advice given. I've been doing this for over 30 years and still don't have it figured out. Don't let the guide options into your head. Get what you think looks good and don't overthink it. My opinion is that you have steel, titanium and ceramics. That's it. All of the different types of "ceramics" don't mean much to me, at least for my inland rods. One is as good as another.

When I do small trim bands with metallic, I always CP them and let them dry before trimming.

You could also look into the cylindrical steel flasks/cigar tubes that you could incorporate into the rear grip. That's really a cool idea. Might need to consider one for myself now.

Thanks Robert, but I need one of these a couple of weeks ago, hence the desperation. I think I found someone on what cannot be named that may be able to help.

I ordered one of these from a sponsor in cocobolo, .with a 420" bore about a month ago and it is still on backorder. I have a rod that I really need to get out of here and I'm getting very nervous. Do any of the sponsors here, or any of the guys/gals have one of these laying around? Happy to purchase from you or replace with the one I've ordered when it shows up. At this point I'm not ev

Yup, I am in the St. Louis area as well. Making a trip out that way would not out of the question, depending on what I have going on here.
