I would like to try my first ever spiral guide wrap and had a few questions. Background: I have read up on the different methods and the principal of how the line should flow through the guides. I have three rods ready for guides, an SJ736, MB765 NEO cut down to 6'9", and an MB 7108 for flipping Coosa grass and river brush. Fishing Alabama bass, Largemouth, and the occasional hybrid.

In short, no. If you mod it to use the running trim the alps carrier uses then it puts the carrier a long way off center axis of the rod and makes it hard to control. I used mine when the rod was longer than the base to get the last guides. After a few runs with the alps carrier I am confident in it. Just takes getting used to since you don't have such a large visual indicator of tension.

The trim ring doesn't work. It is close. Mudhole did not have a size that would work in their catalog. I am either going to order a different seat or 3D print a finger groove transition piece.

Keith, Same problem here. I had some SK Fuji Split seats in casting laying around and ordered the rods on sale with the grips. The size 17 SK casting seats are also the same outside diameter as the tenon. Tonight I am going to try an idea that may work if I am lucky. I am hoping one of the hidden thread sleeve end caps will fit over the tenon even if I have to arbor it up. The the natural tape

Has anyone tried to carve out a cork handle to inlay inside it? On a cork handle with enough material you could carve the handle down in the shape of the jig. Then place the full jig in and fill it with epoxy. Then clean and flush the edges to the cork and seal the cork with U-40.

Chris, I got busy with family and forgot to measure for you. I will set a phone reminder today. If you end up using the measurements just use them as a starting point for static placement because guide height will have an impact on placement.

I have built on four of them. They are all different lengths though. The blank is designed to be able to be cut down and not lose properties so I don't think they will offer a guide placement chart for it. Static line guide is how I set mine up. And I highly recommend that as a skill to add to your arsenal. I have one that is full length. If you would like I can measure it and share here. It

Accuracy is the problem. Like with firearms the term accuracy is misused when judging equipment. It is consistency that the equipment should be judged by. Repeatability. I am really just curious about the process of a performance study of consistency in tubular stress and unloading honestly. I don't mean to drag it out. Also the one who presented "FACT" historically is proven to

If there is someone here who would like to put this to rest and actually run a study I would gladly donate engineering design input and process input for the project. It is interesting. The study could even be done as rod "X" vs rod "Y" in separate ERN classes. This would protect against brand battling. Once somebody bet on graphite when it was not working well. Someone was cu

I am not saying the rod will or will not make a difference. I am simply stating the scientific model to actually find out. Edit: For clarity, I really don't care much. I am happy with performance of myself and my rods and have no desire to split hairs. I also have no desire to spend capitol on research. I am just brainstorming a method for actually finding out. The amount of physical factors t

As I stated before, it needs to be standard testing where equal casting force is applied to each and compare deltas. To use your analogy, Hulk Hogan casts as far as he can but with two different rods. Did they cast the same distance?

Phil, It is likely due to not having a standard test the industry can agree on for such data.

First, a FACT is already proven or else it would be a hypothesis. Second, In the case of this "negative" it is quite simple to isolate the rod blank and compare the delta between landing groups. If a high end blank and lesser blank of the same length, ERN, and action is built identical, then side by side in a controlled environment on a machine designed for identical casting we could

As triggered as some here get about marketing I am glad we don't have a ton of market power. Otherwise every fishing ad would end with, "The quality of angling services cannot be compared to the quality of angling services of other angling equipment manufacturers."

E, That sounds like a solid first build. Here are a few inputs that are merely suggestions. I don't feel they complicate the process too much but also aren't "needed" for a quality build. Guide spacing: The guide spacing charts aren't a bad thing. I followed them on my Mudhole starter blank. But once I studied the static load guide placement I never looked back. It is simple to do

I had a an order from Getbit for a few rods worth of Fuji guides. One #8 was backordered but the email went to the spam folder and I missed the notification. The entire order was held. Once I contacted them they did very well to work with me on sending the partial order. They would be wise to invest in live inventory on their site.

Thank you for the response. It makes sense for you. When I deep load a backswing I typically am not looking for pinpoint accuracy. Of course the type of primary fishing I do usually involves fanning over an area and covering water when I cast like that. That is why I personally stopped spining. I saw no benefit on the water for how I fish and noticed a rod that the tip was not in line and it bugg

Kent, Great high effort post. That was educational. Still I have one question. Unlike a fishing rod, a golf club shaft is flexed during the swing on the same axis every time in the perfect day on the course. But rods, especially inshore/stream/bass, are cast several different ways throughout the day. Roll cast, overhead, bow and arrow... So is spining still effective even if you aren't loading

The trouble is quantifying accuracy as there is no industry standard test for accuracy in rods like there is in other outdoor sports such as firearms and archery. Without one you can't quantify either side of the debate. So points become moot and it is merely opinion which is fine. We can respect each others opinions even if they differ.

Michael, It really depends on your customer base and area. My local market is primarily focused on performance. I live in the South and not near the coast so everything is bass. So most of the time if I add lipstick it is generally for weight savings. I.E: Carbon fiber grips like the AT or the ones from WA that no longer sponsor here. I will always ask if there are certain colors of thread, gu

Rod and rig definitely are a huge factor in distance, but the argument of rod vs angler has always been about accuracy. In which case it has much more to do with the angler and their ability to repeat motion and make fine adjustment. The best analogy I have is that if you give a sub MOA rifle to a novice shooter they will not shoot sub MOA. Same tool in an experts hands and it will shoot sub MOA

I am just playing around. Unfortunately Phil the data is meaningless without marketing and proven to be unnecessary with the presence of marketing. To make money with a product one only needs to convince the market of the value. This perceived value is all that is required for most consumers. A lot of us here will question marketing and just as many won't.

Try hitting off the tee with your high end putters and compare it to a Kirkland Signature driver. Measure in yds ft and in. I wont tell you how far of a backswing. We wont measure speed or force of the swing. Just measure the results regardless of the infinite variables of the human physiological mechanics.
