I've had an overall positive experience with NFC. I know they don't keep all blanks stocked at all times and sometimes have to roll a new blank upon order. You can call them or email them to check their stock prior to ordering. They'll give you a call/email back after a while because they have to physically go to the storage to check the stock.

Thank you everyone for the informative insights! I'm waiting till next paycheck for the blank, so I still have some time to think over the 4WT vs 5WT for my applications. Thanks Greg for the quick Rainshadow Rev blank review. I'm really impressed with my Rev spinning rod, so I assumed that the fly blank would be good as well. I know that the popular advice for beginners is to skip a WT

Angelo, Thank you for the suggestion! I mostly fish a heavily pressured public park pond 5 minute walk away from my house. There's bass in there, but they're smart and rarely bite(at least on finesse bass lures/baits), especially the bigger ones. I seldom fish other waters, although I'm planning on traveling with this setup by bike to other local public ponds. I like being under powered fo

I need some help building a fly rod! I've done some homework, so I won't look like an idiot, but there's so much contradicting information, I'd like some specific feedback from here. I've never done western fly fishing, have been fishing Tenkara(fixed line Japanese fly fishing, similar to high sticking/czech nymphing) for a bit. I'm thinking about making this more travel friendly, so looking

I've also had some issues with my first MB736 blank back around March - April, 2020. Mine was warped in two different places. The measurements were off from the provided numbers on the site, because both blanks I received were different butt diameter and tiptop size. Ashlynn corrected my first blank for me by sending me a new blank the next day, free of charge. Still took an additional few da

I'm confused. Why not just mention the manufacturer so we can tell you if it's supposed to be that way or not? I know Point Blank and NFC have rods that are unsanded or only partially sanded. I like the look and feel. I know you can sand it off to get the blank smooth like Dennis mentioned. I had no issues wrapping guides onto my NFC X-Ray Blank with ridges.

Don, great talking to you as well and thanks again for the info! I gave Don a call to ask more about the TiForged Guides. He mentioned that the spinning running guides are taller and tend to weigh more than the casting runners. Since I'm trying to keep the tip light, I might end up going with the casting runners even when acid wrapping. I'll wait a couple more weeks to see if Mudhole or oth

Since I'm fairly new, I've only done business with GetBit, NFC, and MudHole. I'm ordering below $150, so I would have to pay $15 shipping for AnglersWorkshop. Jann's doesn't carry Fuji's Titanium guides, RodBuildersWarehouse only carries SeaGuides, looks like the TheRodRoom is the closest to having everything I need. Doesn't have a KDPS EVA foregrips and there's a $10 shipping fee as well.

Thanks for the very specific info, Jonathan! I'm sure at this point that I could just go with all TiForged guidetrain since all I do is build for myself. I'm sure they cast well, handle braid without issues, and are just as light as the Fuji at fraction of the price. I wonder how light the Nanolite rings are compared to Torzite, although at micro sizes, I'm sure there is only a minimal differe

The only reason I even venture through mixing these is that the Fuji's Ti KB and some KT are out of stock on MudHole.

I did a quick search on the forums to see if there any posts regarding American Tackle's TiForged Guides, and saw that there were pretty minimal posts online. I'm only familiar with Fuji guides, and wanted an opinion on how they compare when using them for running guides. I like Fuji's RV-6 stripper guide and their Arowana tiptop, so I'll likely use those, but could I use American Tackle's size

Fist of all, I apologize for my long post as always. I just want to provide as much information as possible in case someone in the future is searching through the forums trying to find info on the specifics of a blank and how someone else built them. I also want to thank everyone for the feedback on my posts, they helped greatly in choosing the parts. So I finished building these up last wee

Another vote for Tenkara when it comes to short casts and packability. I have a 13ft tenkara rod with a 12.5ft furled line + 3ft of tippet. I can cast around 25ft from the bank without too much problem. You can also get a level line which is a brightly colored fluorocarbon line that you can cut to your desired length. Collapses to about 40cm or 1'3"ish.

I also recommend the Revelation series based on my experience with their REVS610MLXF. Light weight, fast action, plenty sensitive, affordable, and durable in my experience.

Sounds like a nice build, sorry it didn't work out exactly how you wanted. Although, I would say that a aldebaran is likely an overkill for an 1/8oz weight + hook + bait. That would be around 1/4oz total weight. Most recent low profile baitcasters should be able to cast that without too much of an issue. I can cast 1/8oz bullet weightwith a zoom finesse trick worm(smaller than the regular tri

Haven't had experience with that specific blank, but looks very interesting. A "ML" blank rated for 1/4oz to 3/4oz but only weighs 1.45oz? That sounds like a light but powerful blank. I have two XRay MB736 rated for 1/4oz to 3/4oz waiting to be built as well(waiting for parts to come in) Considering that the 703 and 736 have the same lure rating and one is rated as a "6" po

I believe he's more specifically looking for a BFS(Bait Finesse System). BFS is typically focused on using a baitcasting reel with a UL or L power rods rated anywhere from 0.5g(1/64oz) to 6g(1/4-ish oz) and throwing lures. Most tend to spool with 50-80 yards of 6lb braid or 4lb Fluorocarbon. Since a baitcaster needs to pay out line using a revolving spool, the spool needs to be lightweight and

I've had issues as well with multiple orders. The biggest issue I've encountered is that their inventory database is incorrect. They show products in stocks on their site that are not in stock. Once you place the order, the automated system will send you an email regarding a product in your order that's out of stock in the system. But when you call them regarding the missing items, it's actua

That would depend on the company... Since you're talking in St.Croix terms, you can see exactly which blank they use on their website. No need to hide which blank you use when you make your own blanks Looks like their $140 St.Croix Mojo Bass uses their SCIII blanks. I have a Daiwa Tatula, which have around the same quality of parts and it's plenty sensitive and weighs in around 3.5oz.

How much do you value your time? I feel like production rods at $150 are going to be better in almost every way provided that customers pick the right brand. For example, let's say you're building a 7' freshwater Medium Power Fast Action spinning rod with "above average" Fuji components. That would imply Fuji Alconite SS guides at the least, with their "premium" reel se

Got an email back from NFC that the new blank will be shipped out today. I've had an amazing customer service experience from Ashlynn. I may have gotten lucky, but I really hope that my experience means that they've severely improved their customer service. As for the first blank, I decided to build it into a spinning rod for a co-worker. It'll cost him all of 70 dollars for the parts. H

Sent them an email earlier today, got an email back saying that they'll send me a new blank. I was also told that I can keep the blank, so I'm thinking that I'll spiral wrap this rod with cheaper Alconite guides. Should I cut the 1 inch kink off the top? Would it impede casting if I don't? I guess the tip would be in a strange position, but the tip would be swinging while the lure is flying

The issue is that the bends are the opposite of each other. The bend in the blank is the 180 degrees from the bend at the tip. I'll go ahead and send this one back and hope for a better one next time. I hope I don't have to pay for shipping it back... Thank you for the input!

Just received my MB 736. The blank weighs 2.2oz(2oz advertised, no big deal), and the tip is 5.5(4.5 advertised). The total length is 86.5 inches, which is half an inch shorter than the advertised 7'3" length. The concerning part is that there's a bend at the last 1 inch of tip section away from the spine of the blank and a bend about 2 to 3 feet away from the butt of the blank. I took a

Mark, My mistake on mis-labeling the KTs as the KB model names. I was copy and pasting them around and forgot to change them around. Tom, The size at the 180 locations are all size 5 guides except for the one from Mark's suggestion aside from a 5.5 tiptop. Are you suggesting that I run all size 5 for all guides in transition and tiptop?

While I'm waiting for my NFC MB736 XRay to come in, I'm trying to figure out the guide train. I haven't decided on whether I'll spiral wrap it or not, but I'm considering both options for now. I've read through more than a few posts on the forum, but haven't read much on using the newer KR concept guides for spiral wrapping. Here are the options that I'm debating... Reel Setup -30 lb Daiwa

Had the opportunity to catch some fish on the new rod using a 1/10oz Ned Rig since the drop shot wasn't working today. I'm very happy with the build! Took a few fish to start setting the hook correctly on the rod since the tip was quite a bit more limber than my other rods, but was able to land 4 or 5 fish today. None of them big, none over 1.5 pound. Measured the completed rod, it came out

Received all the parts for the REVS610MLXF and built it up today. The Kistler imitation grip setup came out pretty good, I think. Here's a short album: I tried to post on the Photo section on rodbuilding.org, but couldn't log into the photo section for some reason. I wasn't sure if I had to do another sign up for it. It's well balanced with a Daiwa Tatula LT 2500 with the balance poin

David, Ended up giving NFC a call. They told me that they had a the MB736 in stock. I've read through some of your posts about the MB736 blank and I'm convinced that the MB736 XRay will be a good fit for me, so I went ahead and placed an order. At the worst case, it should make an amazing finesse jig (1/4oz) rod. I couldn't resist the sale... I decided to get NFC's carbon split grip kit
