Anyone used the American Tackle 3KFS? Thoughts? i like it's looks. Is it appropriate for a freshwater 6wt or is it really for a larger weight rod?

Dirty laundry is best kept and dealt with in the washing machine, as far as I am concerned. I worked for a Fortune 1000 consumer products company for 30 years. The fact is that product defects can or do happen and once in a while can be missed by QC, but it is also a fact that some consumers are simply over the top, disrespectful and want to make public their grievance or anger, and blame the

I have two NFC LMX fly rods to wrap soon, as well as an Epic blank, so i will find out soon enough. But I would think if you find it difficult due to the ridges, just move to a larger thread.

St. Croix announced that it will be dramatically upping its fly rod game in terms of range and quality of offerings. Maybe that will mean some new blanks in the future at Rod Geeks.

Looks like they have cut the color options down to basically 4 colors, probably the previously most popular choices, and the two natural colors. I would suspect so much color customization in the past was not practical or cost effective. The association with St. Croix also seems to be downplayed on the site compared to previous. Of course they may still be building out the site. I am not su

Can someone please compare or contrast these two rods? Thanks. Looking to throw a range of flies but needs to be able to sling a bead head wooly bugger as well as some 14-16 dries.

NFC has a huge Black Friday sale on at the moment, so you cannot get a better deal on a blank right now than on their web site.

Re: Revelation RX7 vs. Immortal RX8 Sensitivity Posted by: Michael Danek (---.alma.mi.frontiernet.net) Date: October 12, 2022 06:31PM Regarding: "Other factors of sensitivity are the rod's taper, the thickness of the blank, , ," How do you know? You have data? You are correct to call me out and ask that question, as I do not have data, just anecdotal, subjective opinion.

A golf club builder can carefully choose different shaft length, shaft weight and grip weight to affect the swingweight of the club, as Chris Nash chooses his components to balance his rod. In reality, when you say you are balancing the rod, your are adding a certain level of weight, primarily at the butt end (reel seat, grip) to build it to a certain and preferred swingweight. Golf club swin

Addition : Weighting a the butt of a rod to achieve a certain degree of balance for a rod and reel combination can and does enhance their performance for certain tasks, like flipping and pitching for bass. And that's not my subjective opinion, That's a fact :o) Yes, you are correct, to an individual degree, and in golf that is where the term swingweight and swingweighting came into being, an

I would not worry about it too much. So long as the thread is secured, it will not make a difference other than to your eye. If the look bothers you that much, you can always remove the epoxy, rewrap the guide, and apply new epoxy. Not a fun task, but not that hard, either.

As an avid golf club builder, and as an occasional rod builder (have 3 to make in the next few months), rod data can provide much insight, and the more the better.. But the "I know what I like when I feel it approach" is totaly subjective, and adding weight to the butt to seek balance, IMHO, is adjusting a blank that may not initially meet one's overall preferences. In golf, a shaft

I am building an 8 wt LMX 9 foot fly rod. I will use it for large river fishing for trout/steelies, and perhaps some salt. I like the looks of the Alps Triangle Reel seat, but am wondering what reel seats folks favor on such an 8-weight? Do you think a fighting but is essential on such a rod? Thoughts and opinions, please. Thanks.

As to a 5-weight fly rod that is not fast, I think you could try the NFC classic. Hook and Hackle Xi rods are rather moderate in action (they say moderate-fast), and the Xe are even a bit slower than the Xi. Batson Unity may be worth a try, also.

Lots of comments on NFC in the past around orders and shipping issues, so I will post this very recent experience. I ordered two LMX blanks on the last day of the big Sept. sale, which was 9/6. I was informed at the time of ordering that it would take 2-3 weeks from date of order to delivery. I received an email on 9/6 my order was received. I received an email on 9/19 my order had shippe

Tough to beat the NFC LMX when on sale, which was only $75 a week or so ago, and the blank is well worth the $125-$150 price that it seems to be sold for much of the time, but they have lots of sales. I would not buy a Hook and Hackle Xi blank at this time, as they will be having a new and updated Xi design coming out in the Fall. I have a 9ft. 5 weight Xi, which I got on sale for $50 or so m

Come on dude. In regard to my area of interest and expertise, fly rods, the blanks have improved consistently over the past 40 years. Carbon fiber and resins have become lighter and stronger, which has increased the ability for rod designers to create tapers today that were not possible in past decades. To deny this is utter tomfoolery. And a manufacturer is by no means required to give you a

I would recommend a 9 ft, 7wt rod. CTS makes a fine product. You could also consider: Batson Eternity 2; North Fork Composites LMX or Gama Beta; Pac Bay Arctos. Earlier this year I tossed streamers on the Big Hole River on a windy day with a 7wt and it was great. Lots of power to blast out a bead head bugger but still plenty of feel for 15" trout.
