Michael. Don't ask me which model I broke. lol. Yep. That's the one. Jack ran under boat towards trolling motor... then crack!

My recent attempt to build the perfect rod that was ultra-sensitive while at the same time tough as nails-- failed. I thought I found the perfect blank. It was incredibly light, extremely sensitive, and a remarkable caster, until I broke it... on its maiden voyage! It was a medium action casting rod that went to war against a BIG jack. The jack won. This was the first rod I've ever broken in

Well here is the good news. I finally finished my second build on the Point Blank (PB731mxf). See link below. I really like the way it came out, with a few imperfections of course, but only things a true rod builder would notice. lol. The rod is very light, loads effortlessly, casts incredibly well and is quite sensitive. I was impressed. The bad news however is that I broke it on my fir

I've looked at few manufacturer's blanks and have noticed they offer both spinning and casting versions in their same line. For example, Phenix, Rainshadow, MBX, etc., offer both versions, usually in the bass fishing line-up. So what is the difference, if any in these blanks? Is it the rating?

So I'm at the point where I'm doing the static testing on a rod build. Rod is Point Blank 731MXF paired with Daiwa Ryoga 1060 casting reel. Right now I have 9 running guides (Fuji KW #5), and 3 reduction guides. The reduction guides are KWR#6 (stripper), #5.5 double foot, and #5.5 single foot. Being a newbie, I'm not sure what is acceptable line lay when the rod is flexed 90 degrees. When I d

Any one ever try Wipe-On Poly on carbon fiber? I have used it on cork grips and like the fact that it is available in gloss and semi-gloss finishes... maybe even satin. The semi-gloss I used was absorbed into the cork and did not dramatically affect the sheen of the cork.

I really like my Rainshadow Immortal blank. They have a few inshore popping rods that should be great.

That's good to know. I plan on pairing it with a Daiawa Ryoga 1060, and use it for pitching plastics and topwater in the backcountry. While I am not wrapping it as a spiral rod, any exact measurements you can provide would be awesome as this is only my second build...

Well I pulled the trigger on a PB731MXF blank. I intend to build it as a casting rod, may use a reverse guide on the stripper guide. Has anyone build a casting rod on this blank? I know Fuji has a tutorial on guide placement, but just wondered if anyone with experience can weigh in.

Looking for some info on painting part of a blank from the butt to the first guide. Can you recommend a paint for this application? Should it be finished with some type of clear coat?

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I was considering a 7'3" - 7'6" build using a Rainshadow Eternity blank, but since Batson discontinued that line, I've been looking at the Point Blank blanks. This thread has given me a boatload of info.

I'm thinking about cutting 1-1.5 ft. off a 10.5ft. surf blank. The blank itself is rated for 20-40# braid, 2-6oz. lures, and is a 50/50 split. If I cut 1.5ft. off of the bottom, in effect making it a 9ft. rod, how will that affect it's action and rating? I'm thinking it'll make it faster, but how about what weight lures it can handle, or recommended lines? Will that change? Will I ruin the b

I've seen some of the suggested models: United Composites Sidewinder Bushido Warrior MHX Lamiglas I like them. i also like the Black Hole Nano. If were to cut a surf rod from 10 feet to 9 feet, how would that affect the action and rating?

I'm a very new rod builder, and am considering my next build. I'd like to build a 2-piece, 9-9.5 ft. Musky rod (M-MH), but am having a hard time finding high end 2 piece rod blanks. I'd like it to have a 70/30 split if possible. I know many Japanese rod makers have excelled in building 2 piece rods, but I don't know any Japanese blanks that are available for import. Any ides?

No no no. It's getting clearer. I do appreciate the input and I think I will do as suggested by simply replacing the the recommended guides with the ones I have. Standby for step 2, laying out my running guides.

You guys are class acts. Thanks for taking the time to help this ole goat. So do I still position my larger guides on the blank in the same location the software recommends, or do I make slight adjustments?

Oh 2 more things: The KR interface asks if I'm building a Conventional or Micro? I'm a little doubtful on this? The running guides are 5J. Can I make the reduction guides 25, 12, 7 and have the 5.5 be my choke guide? I thought the choke guide had to be a running guide (in my case a 5J)?

Ok I think much of the confusion is gone, as I was using the wrong program and trying to make them both work. I really appreciate your help on this. So now if I use the 25H instead of the 20H, and the 12H instead of the 10H, doesn't the location on the rod change a bit? I thought, as a general rule, that larger guides move further back on the blank? Also do I leave out the 7M, and go right
