Another question. The section of this blank where the reel seat will go is 16mm. I’m think of a trigger grip like this (https://www.mudhole.com/Fuji-ACS-Trigger-Reel-Seat). Which size seat would you recommend being it’s an exposed blank design? 16.5mm? 17mm? Any reason this reel seat would not be a good idea for my build?

Great ideas here. Thank you very much. Do you ream the handle to fit the blank before you shape it? Does it matter?

To clarify, I'm looking to shape the foam core... to then glue the carbon fiber over it... then finally to glue it to blank

I'd like to try my hand at shaping some handles for a build using Carbon Fiber handles. The Carbon Fiber handle kit will be where I start, but I do not have a cork / EVA turning lathe. My rod wrapper is the most economical single speed (CRB i think). How else might I shape the handle? I'm looking to do some rounding and tapering of the ends. Any cheap lathes out there that I might look into?

So looks like I'm getting ready to build a conventional / baitcasting rod on an 8'3" CTS blank. I'll probably go with Fuji KW double foot guides (SIC), but would like some ideas on number of guides as well as sizes. This will be a 30# rod used in the salt to throw heavy plugs and jigs, probably using leaders from #30-65. Because of the this I'm thinking double foot guides all the way throu

Dumb newbie question: can I build on a sanded blank that is unpainted? Sorry this will be my third build and the last 2 were painted.

Thinking of building on the CTS Seamaster PE2-4 (30# outfit), but rather than the typical spinner, I'm considering building it as a casting model. Any compelling reasons not to? Anyone build on this blank? Would love to see it, and perhaps get your guide spacing specs... Was planning on pairing it with a Daiwa Lexa 400. TIA

Looking to build an 8-8.5 ft. casting rod rated for 20-40#, but would like it to be a 70/30 split 2-piece for travel reasons. I'm not finding much out there if anything at all. Any manufacturers that I'm overlooking?

Yes on Hollywood FL. I was answering Russell's reply about multi-day boats out of South Florida. Re: Fuji guides, I was referring to the Heavy Duty guides, not particlulary the model numbers. Sorry for the confusion. Now about the ARTICLE, I did find it and I ordered it. Now I'll wait.

Would you consider a Rail rod a type of Stand up rod?

The American Patriot(?) out of Hollywood and the Yankee Capts out of Key West both allow trolling between spots.

Thanks for the advice. When I think of "stand up" tuna tackle, I tend to think of short 5-5.5 ft. rods with shorter butt sections, etc., and when I think of a true trolling rod I think 6ft. rod with rollers. Right now, I'm thinking of a build that I can use for trolling on some multi-day boats out of South Florida... mainly targeting wahoo. 6-6.5 ft. seems to work here in this applica

So to date, I've build 3 rods and repaired 3. All were inshore models. Now I'm looking at building my first offshore model; a 60-130#, 6.5-7ft., that will have multiple uses including trolling. I've settled on ALPS aluminum Centra-lok seat, and Fuji SIC HD guides, and am looking at Rainshadow, Phenix and Calstar blanks.Any others I should consider? What advice can you offer me in this build?

Thanks I just found the simplified version... the one my brain can handle. lol The first article made my eyes gloss over. Not only that I found it difficult to use for non-fly rod applications.

I really liked fishing with the PB731MXF. Unfortunately I no longer have it. I've exchanged a Rainshadow IMMC72M in favor of a IMMC73ML, feeling that the72M was a bit heavier action than I want. It felt more like it was on the MH side. So as I wait for the arrival of the ML blank, I'd like to know which, if any, NFC blanks are similar to the PB731. To be honest the ratings and specs on NFC's
