Jason.
I no longer have the weight differences between Micro and larger guides. I used to have most of them but have been using Micros so long now that I've bothered keeping up with that info.
But I can tell you that one 6 mm guide weighs about the same as six 3 mm guides.
So I'm going to suggest that about four 4 mm guides weigh what one 6 mm guide does.
That being the case

That is what a fishy eye is.
But in this case caused by your solvent. Use dish soap to clean, It will cut through oil base in the solvent, then do as Mr Kirkman suggests.

Some DNA's have a type of thin oil base in them.
Which is the contamination causing your problem.
Clean and dry it again using dish soap to remove the contamination and use coffee filter to dry. and DO NOT REAPPLY DNA, and apply another coat of epoxy or remove what you have or start over if you do not want the extra weight.

Not sure how you mount your pistil grips, but if you drill (ream all the way through), Then use a butt plug to hide the hole at the butt end?
You can leave that plug out and simply wedge another piece of Rod inside the rod blank, (usually just use larger part of broken blank). So the it extends five to six inches past grip. I wedge it in snug, then wrap a little bit of masking tape in

I've not used either blank, but You will have a better hook up to land ratio with the 7-11 moderate fast action over the other. Especially if you are planning to use it for punching or flipping heavier (bigger profile) baits and weights

187. Re: Guide problems.
David;
There is a specific reason/cause for those failures.
The link below was an evaluation I did back in 2010 after about 6 months use, concerning Batson's new ALP's guides. In that evaluation I addressed a specific issue I saw in one manufacturer's new designs to help better secure their guides to blanks, that was going to become the problem you are dealing with.
To date, from that fir

Glenn;
If you are just looking for general info on flipping sticks the advice given so far may suffice. But if looking for info on building one to better serve you. Here are some pointers that will aid in building a rod whcih will perform better you.
mass produced flipping stick handles can be anything up to 15 inches or so.
Using the handle length to better balance a flipping stick is in

He said (in so many words): that his company sells a lot of Micro guides to big rod manufactures. So they are either still putting them on rods or just throwing them in the trash.

Six 3-mm micro guides weigh approximately the same as one 6-mm guide (depending on material and manufacturer) so if you took off SIX 6-mm guides and replaced them with THIRTY 3-mm guides them it would pretty much be a "WASH" .
But anything less them THIRTY 3-mm guides equals: less weight. better line control, less recovery amount and time, better balance, which all equates t

192. site question
I hope its something wrong with my computer!
But I logged this mourning and the only thing that comes up are the 4 sticky posts. none of the other 1200 plus pages of posts shows up.
Is any one else having this problem?

It has been my experience that you will get a further casting distance stepping down in guide size,
Yes anything you add to a blank dampens vibration and the more dissimilar the materials the greater the dampening.
Try this experiment: take a blank and hold it vertically about mid point suspended in air. Place a little piece of tape or pencil mark where you are holding.
Then with the othe

according to Mud Hole they are a glass/graphite composite. Read the specs at bottom of their page

Yes you can!
But I would with choose one of their higher grade blanks in that action. No way I would want to sacrifice the sensitivity you would loose by using a glass/graphite composite blank for flipping.
Also would not want the extra weight that comes from having glass in a flipping blank.
But using that action will improve hook-to-land ratio over using a fast to extra fast blank to fli

Larry;
This is a great forum that some the worlds finest builders visit and share info on. And amazingly most are willing to support new builders.
Mr Kirkman does an excellent job of insisting that things are kept civil and professional. A standard I greatly respect him for, and wish some other sites would adopt.
I too hope you have a great fishing year. Sinko season is upon us.

Larry below is a link posted about 6 years ago after evaluating Batson s ALPS guides for several months
Since that time until present (roughly 7 years) I have yet to have a single alps guide fail, I can not say that about any of the other Micro's I've tried including Batson's first design .
I have recently been asked to evaluating a set of Micro Titanium guides from a new player in the marke

Mud Hole;
That is an excellent post., If you had provided that info in the first place I may not have even posted.
The opinions I shared were based on the pictures presented in the post.
The cloth coated rod bands are also an excellent idea. Went back to re-looked at your site's picture in case I missed them and needed to apologize for not sharing that info. They are not pictured, noted i

I've not taken the time to read the other responses so some of this may be repetitive.
Your remark: " I hear a lot of debate about sensitivity being highly overrated by us bass fisherman"
Most of those comments come from people/builders that have little to no understanding of what sensitivity is required in certain bass fishing techniques or what it takes to build a good

I hate to state or question the obvious but:
The V-notch in the wood wrappers looks remarkable like the V- notch in the CBR wrapper.
I used a wood wrapper for the first 25 years of rod building before switching to a power unit.
In fact used the same unit the whole time with out failure. Still sits on a shelf in case I need it for back up some day.
I think the Flex coat may include more s

yes designed to run either direction
Mine have always made a little noise and so do the same type of motors on my dryers. Is normal.
If you want to keep it running same direction manually rotate it that way as you flip power switch on and it will go which ever direction you start it.

Jay some thing to consider:
If you are fishing from a bass boat where you will be standing while you're skipping or casting across/over the trolling motor?
You may be better served using a slightly longer rod then you plan on. Having to elevated the rod a bit to miss the control head on the trolling motor will bring your rod tip a little higher then you may like. Which will sharpen the ang
