Kim: Not sure, but it could also be that the stripper guide is to close to the reel. Creating angle that is a bit sharper then you want That angle could be what is causing the problem. Thread the line on the blank with out going through the stripper guide and cast it a few times. If that’s it ,you only need to move that guide a little forward to correct the problem. Let us know your result

Brett: What happened was, that I bought an 8ft Alstar blank from Andy at the show. Used it to build a Carolina rig rod. Want to build another. But some how the paper work I wrote down the blank specs on disappeared. Have been communicating with Andy to find out for sure which blank it was, but neither one of us knows for sure. All I was able to find was part of the label that I had removed Tha

If you can drill a hole through the butt section from the back in, it can cause two options for you . 1- The heat from drilling will soften the epoxy and you will then be able to pull the butt extension out. Or 2- You can then mix up some epoxy, pull it into a syringe and inject it up into the rod. Before injecting make a plug out of some cork of the size needed to plug the hole. Hold the ro

I would suggest, taking a rod that you already have. That you like the length of the rear grip section on. then build the one your working on to the same length with a piece out of the middle creating your split grip

You can take some thread and run it parallel to the blank like you would if you were doing a weave. A darker color or maybe an orange. Use tape to hold it in place Then wind another lighter color over I, like you would a guide. Don’t use color preserver then when you epoxy it, the darker or brighter color will show through the winding. Providing an alignment point for him to see. You can adjust

IMO While it may be convenient to do so. If you use glue sticks to cushion between the foot and blank. You are also cushioning the vibration from being transferred to the blank. As the soft glue serves as a deadening material. It may not mater on top water rods or fly rods, maybe even Salt water rods were you can see the fish strike. Or the fish are so large your using a broom handle anyway. But

While at the rod builders show. I bought a blank from Andy Dear out of one of his barrels. I have some how miss placed the paperwork on which I wrote the specifics of the blank down on. What I am hoping is, with the info I remember some one else might have bought a similar blank and can supply me with the rest of the info. Would really like to get my hands on a few more but neither Andy nor myse

Andrew/Emory Pitching/flipping sticks are the number one rod I balance. I have added as much as 2.5 ounces to the butt to obtain neutral balance. Yes I know that is excessive. But for me and some times I flip 7 or 8 hours a day, the lack of fatigue in my wrist is worth the added weight . One way I have been able to cut way down on that weight is to go to one piece 8’ flipping sticks inste

There is a long thread from a while back that looks at several sides to this question. Do a search on it. Good opinions both for and against. Cliff really good reply! Good info. For myself I am a bass fisherman and use technique specific rods most of the time. So depending on what I am doing with a rod, will determine how I balance it. For rods that I build for crank baiting, Spinner baitin

Almost all of the previous threads are related to rod building in one form or another. What type of rods are you waning to build? You can look in the library on the site and get some good tips on building. Also can go to Mud hole tackle one of the sponsors on the left 's web site. In the beginning of their catalog they have some basic instruction Bingham's web site has a section that would b

You can go to Lowe’s. In the plumbing department they have caps for gluing on the ends of pipes. Look for them in the PVC pressure fitting’s area. (not the drainage fittings). Take a cup with you, they will have them from ½” up to 2”. Pick out the size that works best for the cup you are using. Mount to shaft, your good to go. If you would rather use rollers instead of bearings, yo

I have on one occasion. On a personal rod. Were I did not see the gap until I had already epoxied my first coat. It is not that obvious but you can see it if you look for it. I don’t think I would do it to a customers rod. I do how ever use it to coat the feet of black guides that I’ve ground the ends down on. On wraps that are going to be translucent. So that the metal does not show throug

Hey Larry: How late will this last. My tournament should be over by 4. An hour to get back to the house and drop off boat. About 1:45 to get to Greensboro (depending were your at). Could realistically be there by 7:00. unless your planning on shutting it down close to or earlier than that time.

Ike: If you don’t use it as a direct drive, but instead rig it up with a pulley set like a bike you can increase the speed to what you want. Use small pulley on motor. Larger one on what ever you set up as a chuck. You can get a drive belt like what is used on sewing machine from a sewing machine repair place, or one that is used on an upright vacuum cleaner from wall marts and then you will

One of your customers wants to see a sample of what you can do with some of the new materials on the market. Before he puts out the kind of money your asking for the one he wants. I'm tired of being out fished those guy's fishing with that new type of blank.

I’ve had to have 2 rings cut off 1-gold and 1-of a harder composite material. In defense of the jeweler, the tool they have to work with won’t cut titanium. The second ring they could not cut off. Had to have it removed with a power tool ,with a metal cutting bit. Painful and hot is what I remember about it. Almost cost me a finger. The problem is when your finger is swelled around the ring,
