Anyone live in or close to the Port Charlotte area? I’m trying to meet other builders, and start up a monthly club or something. I met Jack, the owner of the Charlotte Harbor Rod Room. Super awesome guy, been building since 92, and will offer up his shop as the meeting place. Anyways, trying to gauge the interest. So far I’ve got two people (Jack and I)....lol

For one customer, a “boat rod” for Tarpon. For another, to pull up grouper.
My question was meant to be “generic” I may be being a little pr

36. Star blank?
Hello,
Was wondering if anyone could recommend a blank that has that slow, parabolic action of the old star rods. I’ve “guesstimated” twice, and guessed wrong. (I did learn that just because it says moderate/slow action, doesn’t always mean parabolic)
I did a search before posting, and didn’t see anything pop up. Forgive me if this is a double post.

So many good replies and a lot of things to try out! The silver lining with any issue I come across in rod building is the education gained from over coming it. Thanks again to all of you willing to take the time to respond. I’ve been away from the bench all weekend, but when I get back I’ll post what I ended up doing for the solution.

I should probably add, he specifically said he wouldn’t be using it to cast far, he’ll be free lining/dropping bait. Point being, I’m wondering if I should even worry about the line slap, and focus more on what the static test tells me the guides should go. I’m my own worst enemy....

He wants his 30# mono, on that reel, on that blank, no matter where I try to steer him.

Building on a Calstar blank for a friend who insists on using his 6500 bait runner spinning reel. When placed on the rod, the axis of the shaft almost runs parallel with the blank, so there is no intersection to set the choke on. So.... I’m thinking I need to do a cone of flight layout for the guides. (Which I’ve done, and now am chasing a line slap issue). Anyways, I’m curious how y’all would la

Thanks everyone for the replies. I ordered some cord from mud hole “Atwood Rope” which I think is paracord without the core. I’ll post pics (if they’re internet worthy...lol)

Hello everyone. I’m intrigued by the paracord wrapped grips and having a hard time finding information on them specific to fishing rods. (Tried doing a search here, before posting)
Anyways, I’ve got some questions if anyone doesn’t mind taking the time to answer.
1. They look awesome, but how are they functionally for fishing rods? Do they last? Any certain applications you’d recommend not
