You don't need all kinds of spray equipment -- Just raddle cans

242. Re: AFTCOTE finish
Two things come to mind on your post
You may have put to much finish on And thus dried with a sag
Your turner may have been too slow I like 50 plus rpm

Take a look at the Dupli Color site Paints similar to auto paint Has primers for plastic a glass In cans and even gallons for spray guns

As fare as I know that is the only finish that takes so long to set
If I were you I would use another Cut your time in half at least

245. Re: AFTCOTE finish
It is a very slow curing finish Most others set in 4 - 6 hours Always check the mixing cup before stopping the turner
You may be able to level it buy hand turning it 180 several times putting the sags on top let level then several more turns to get the sags to lever out Then turn the dryer on again

One thing I wish they would do is make the thread charts a lot larger as the old site was This way you can see the numbers better and with the colors larger you can match a color better when the ends fall off and you don't have any code for it

Hay don't get me wrong Batson is the top of the line in rod parts - quality and service
But when I started reading about the cores builders were using the 4 -6 lb from Riley and was wondering if the 18lb were heaver then them
DON"T put words in my mouth and CHANGE things I say
And I am no expert on building them - just using common sense

So I would think the only thing to do is ( in the winter ) buy from riley and stock up since he seems to have the monopoly on these He seems to be the only one that carries it All

I what I would like to know is how much does the 18LB weigh compared to the 4 - 6 LB That seems like a large difference Or how much compared to cork or eva
Then why go with 18LB Builders seem to like the 4 - 6 lb

Does that 18 weigh more ?? Meaning the handle will be heaver on the rod With builders wanting light weight rods that is not good ??

That is great -- but what if I want to shape my own raw cores or want a different color No one makes them I don't want to wait 6 mouths for an order from Riley
I don't have the room

Since he is so hard to get materials from - this would be a good thing for any one who can make even the un-shapped cores to do so We need some one else to carry them I am going to check out Pac Bay

Was there several posts a while back about gluing the rings together Some sort of problem where they did not hold and a certain glue had to be used

If you can make your reamers from blank sections of different sizes with the 36 I made mine so to fit my drill If too large for the chuck I added a section of smaller size glued into the end ( check for straightness IMPORTANT ) I roll them on my wrapper rollers to check If off center it will wobble
The grips fit better with the Tapered sections as blanks are also tapered

I use a wood rasp on all It has ruff teeth that take a lot off so be careful Just for a quick shape Then 36 paper on a block going finer

269. Re: Furled leaders
When I pull my line and or leader out
I always check the leader and if need be straighten it out by running my hand over it - or replacing it and then running my had over it
And after it is straight then clean and lubricate it
Any fly fisher knows this

If they are a pain to use and make -- why use them Do you think you will catch more fish I don't think so
