You can use a grey Scotchbrite pad and scuff the finish and apply another coat. Before epoxying, a trick my dad taught me is to spray the surrounding work area lightly with water out of a spray bottle. This helps keep dust to a minimum.

What I do is put the reel on the rod and spin the line roller so that it is 180 degrees away from the rod. Run the line through your guides that are taped on and position the stripper guide where the angle of the line from the reel to the guide is not too severe. Hope this helps.

As far as the guide question goes, I would static deflect the rod and see if the line passes through without any sharp angles in it. If it looks smooth, then it's fine.
