Being new at the art something that I struggle with is getting a nice clean edge around my guides. The edge near the point of a guide(beginning of the wrap) isn't an issue. I apply finish at a higher speed and the finish makes a nice clean line. But as a push a little finish toward the front of the the guide(under the guide ring). The angle of the guide moves my brush and keeps me from being able

I saw on a facebook page that Casey with Voodoo rods is now a stateside retailer of matagi and he had some pics of a huge pile of matagi parts. Not sure if he has everything that matagi sells but good lord it looked like it.

This is a great topic and much appreciated from the newer builders. One thing i've been struggling with is the angle on which the stripper guide goes. I've seen some spiral wrapped rods where the stripper is either dead center on 0 or offset by 20-45 degrees. In my static load testing I've always felt the stripper guide needs to be at more of a 60-90 degree angle. It just seems like the line natu

Thanks guys,
I was able to source out an MHX SWB956 swimbait blank that I'm going to put him in. It well within the budget and I think it'll work out well for him

Well guys I searched around at the local FTU and found one of their house brand mag bass blanks that felt like a freakin brick in 7'.
Give me your honest opinion on how you think it would hold up. to the occasional big ole swimbait and other heavier cranks.

I'm utilizing the amtak hzhf single foot guides in size 6 for the runners and double foot 7 and 8 for the stripper and transition.

Thanks guys. the swim bait blanks pretty much limit the rods use to swim baits though correct. I mean I know you could use them for other lures but how much does it limit the fishability? I've never fished with a 7'-10" swimbait rod

I've got a customer who requested a 7'0" MH to work some larger swimbaits with. When I say larger I mean LARGER 4-6"!! He showed me a couple pictures of them and they are roughly the size of the palm of your hand. Slightly over the top if you ask me but who am I to judge baits. He stated he currently used an uglystick g2x 7'0" MH that worked the baits fine but wanted a upgrade and

41. Re: Wavy finish
I used to deal with similar issues. Once I wrapped my brain around the idea that the brush was simply a means of getting the epoxy on the rod and quit trying to brush it smooth my finishing came out much much better and flat as a board.
Here is what I typically do now.
1. Make sure the area you are about to finish is clean of dust etc.
2. Mix up your finish however it is you mix it. I like t

Thanks bill but that isn't the dimensions needed. I needed the I.d. of the seat at the back part of the seat where the grip tenon enters the seat. The ID on angler resource is simply the is of the seat in relation to the the blank size.

K I've got the dimensions.
The I.D. of a size 16 Fuji ECSM seat is 22.89mm
O.D. is 26.58mm
Obviously the tenon length can be whatever it needs to be.
Big thanks to the guys at mudhole for measuring it out for me. Need to just keep one in stock for dry fits.

True Tom i just dont want to waste a lot of eva material on an overly long tenon.

I had a buddy ask me to turn him some custom grips and last minute he changed from fuji sk2 to a fuji ecsm style of seat. I don't happen to have one at the house so i was hoping someone could help me with some dimensions.
What I'm needing is the following
O.D. at the back of the seat
I.D. at the back of the seat where the grip slides into
Depth of the recess on the seat to make sure the te

Thanks guys i just picked up some craft foam. The more I thought about it the more I envisioned a wicked kickback or bind.

So I've gotten myself into a bind and need some strips of white cut out of a eva block I have. I don't have a bandsaw but I do have a tablesaw. I was thinking of picking up a finetooth blade and cutting some thin strips.
Anyone ever cut strips on their tablesaw?
I know my mitersaw with a 120tooth blade cuts eva blocks very cleanly but I need some eva strips of white

So you don't brush it on at all outside of initially putting the heavy finish on the blank?
Shoot I thought you had to use your brush to run the finish along the wrap.

I had also been adding multiple coats thinking the next would fill in the valley of the last.

That might be my problem. I use the brush to apply finish then work it down the rod wrap to coat the rod. I have not been letting the sags fall on the bottom. Typically i measure the smallest amount the finish syringe allows. I also dont usea steady reat when sanding just paper against the finish. Makes sense that wouldnt help

Im still new to building and one area that keeps getting me is final finish. More importantly the tendency of the side profile to have hills and valleys. This is on tigers and crosswraps.
How many coats of finish should one put on a crosswrap/tiger?
Do i need to be sanding between coats to level the surface some?
I apply finish at a higher rpm but not high enough to create footballs and then

I did indeed. I used pink and silver as my base with black on top. It was darker then i would like but I learned that if i want it lighter i should have gone black and silver on bottom with pink on top

I did indeed try black and white(silver) on bottom with pink on top. I honestly don't know if having another shade of pink on top would show the tiger design or just make for a pink wrap. I'll have to try it over the weekend.

Adam Lathrop
Thanks Steve I had originally tried that and the pink was lost in to black and silver. It did turn the wrap a hue of pink but was so subtle it looked more black and silver then anything.

I created a base on my tiger of pink and metallic silver. The pink matched the eva perfect. After putting in the overwrap and leaving the black it darkened up the tiger. I got great movement but it turned the pink more of a red.
What colors should I use instead to give me both movement and at the same time keep the tiger lighter in color?

Ah yes Don I see the tailstock offered online simply says it fits pacbay or american tackle. My mistake on that front.
Tom thanks for the dual support idea.
