Yes the KR GPS does put the choke guide a little further out than I would place it. I put the choke guide at approximately the same distance distance from the stripper as the distance from the spool tip to the stripper giving a a couple of inches due to rod length. So I would put put it at about 41 - 45”. Do not need to go larger than than the size 6KLM, even for size 6 runners, I used a size 5.

Herb hope there was no misunderstanding, the corrosion control guides cost the same as the regular Fuji stainless steel K guides with Alconite rings. It’s a win win situation. If you are talking about the older Fuji Y and V guides, the Fuji K guides are really a step up in performance. yet are very similar in cost to these new corrosion control guides. Once I started using the KR guides, I stop

I agree with Phil. Get the TIBlack guides, they cost more but will look and wear a lot better than painted guides, and will probabaly save you time and money in the long run. Norm

You are using the wrong GPS program. If you are going to use KLH guides use the KR GPS. This will give you a really good starting point. The KLH guides give really funky distances when used in the NGC GPS. Remember that the KR concept is a rapid choke system designed for braid so the choke point is moved closer to the reel. Do not be concerned with using either the table top or 27X system for fi

The Minima4s are really nice on ultralight, light and mag light action rods like your drop shot rods. With that said, it is really hard to beat the Fuji KR guides they are great guides. Try the new Fuji corrosion control guides, in either CC or BC finishes, they are really nice and are the same price as the other Alconite KR guides.. The Loomis GLX and NRX Rods have a pretty hard finish and are

Bought a bunch of both the CC and BC KR guides and matching tip tops for both casting and spinning when they first became available. I like them, and may never buy titanium guides again. Norm

I now know why you want to redo this rod, the recoil guides. Some love them others hate them, and it seems like you do not like them. You are not alone, I have replaced recoil guides on a lot of of GLX and NRX rods. I don’t know when you got your GLX, but it seems that they change the rod finish, handle type and guide trains quite often. Many GLX rods came in a matte black natural finish, which me

I have seen this type of thing before. Sometimes the Internal taper of female ferrule narrows towards the tip and not does allow for the male ferrule to fully fit. So to get a good snug fit you may need to file a little off the tip of the male ferrule. Does not take a lot, a few mm is usually enough. See how it fits, if you still have a wobble take a little bit more off. This will usually fix th

I just checked my Mudhole order history and that particular order is still pending, so I really do need to call them. If they still do not have them I may cancel the order and check with Utmost. The TiBlack guides do look good, in fact you can not tell them apart from the titanium tiblack frames. Since PVD coatings are relatively expensive it is one of reasons the Tiblack guides are more expensiv

The problem with getting matching tiptops for titanium guides is that titanium does not weld very well so making titanium tubes and welding a titanium frame to it is very difficult and to do it right is very expensive. So for the most part, matching tip tops for titanium guides have a stainless tube. Tip tops are the easiest thing to replace on a rod so it usually is not a big deal. I probably n

David the Minima4 polished ss316 hard chrome guides are brand new. I ordered some from Mudhole back on Oct. 6 and they are still on back order. not sure if its a supplier problem or not. so I do not know what they look like. Just a warning they may not be readily available. The regular Minima4 chrome chrome guides do have a matte silver finish. Norm

Took a look at the Alps titanium chrome trim parts and the color seems more of a match to the Minima4 titanium tiblack and tiblack frames, rather than the titanium hard chrome Minima3s. The Alps trim parts appear quite dark. I have the both Minima Titanium Tiblack, and Tiblack guides in hand as well as the new Fuji KR CC and BC guides. I can send you a picture of these by email if you wish. Le

David, thanks for your confidence in me. First let me say that if the Minima guide has a different color frame from the insert it is a Minima3. If the frame and insert are the same color they are Minima4s. So the Titanium Tiblack, Tiblack, Tibronze, and polished hard chrome guides are all Minima4s. All the rest are Minima3s, including the titanium frame hard chrome insert. Sorry about that. Mudh

I also like and use the Fuji KR concept guides a lot, but I have also built a bunch of light spinning rods using the Minima4 match(M) guides coupled with the Minima4 fly (F) guides in a KR setup. Like the Minima4s better than the Minima3s. Sizes and layout are exactly the same as with the Fuji KR guides. The height of M guides are very close to those of the Fuji KLH guides, and the slight differ

I have no idea what you are trying to accomplish. Why have the rod upside down when testing? Its a spinning rod. Look for the line touching the bottom of guides in the rod's normal fishing position which means on the bottom of the rod, thus the bottom of the guide is the part closest to the ground. You are making this much harder than it needs to be. Norm

They are extra fast rods with a relatively light tip and a powerful butt section. Originally designed to fish hotshot plugs for salmon. Can be used for a lot of other types of fishing. Norm

Try it and see how your line looks going through the guides, Remember the line comes off the spool as a coil and the bottom of the coil would be defined by the bottom of the spool. I find when I use my method as outlined above I get a very smooth casting rod. I know some people use the spool shaft as the reference and this would define the center of the coil. Different strokes for different folks

It sounds like the ideal guide to have used for your third transition guide might have been the 12M which is higher than the 16 but shorter than a 20. However, the 12M only comes in a titanium frame. Because the 16 is a little shorter than the 12M it would theoretically need to go a little further out to get the straight line. A size 20 would have been little too tall to get a straight line goi

You are correct! The wrapping at the tip top is just cosmetic, it does not hold the tip top in place, the tip top adhesive does that. Your choice as to whether or not to wrap it. Norm

There is no problem moving guides a little here and a little there. Get your stripper and choke where you want them and progressively place.the other two guides between them. If needed you can push the stripper and/or choke guide a little in or out. There is a lot of leeway in placing guides. What I do to get a good visual of my layout is to tape the guides in place mount your reel and run your l

I have used the RV6 on three casting rod and they work great. Single foot toward the reel. The ring has a slight slope forward like the Fuji K guides which helps to shed loops, and the single ft toward the reel supposedly helps prevent line slap against the guide frame. On one of these rods I used a size 5.5KB as the transition guide followed by 4.5KB/KT runners. For the other two rods I used KW

All of the rods can be used for either spinning or casting, that would be your choice. You can get a quick idea as to the action and power just by putting a bend in the rod. If you want something more objective you can do a quick CCS analysis of the Blanks. Just go to the Common Cents Info at the top of Sponsors column to the left. Norm

I would use a KW 10 as the stripper followed by a KW6 as the transition guide and then KB/KT5 as runners. You can now get a Fuji LG Alconite micro tip top with a 5 ring in the new BC or CC finish. If you want to go lighter I would use KW10, KW5.5: and KB/KT4.5 runners, with a size 4.5 ring tip top. These guides are great, real performance enhancers. Hope this helps. Oh by the way if you are plan
