I am right handed but like to use left handed bait casters. I am comfortable with a left hand retreive with a spinning reel. I think bait casters were mainly strong hand retrieve because of the low gear ratio of the reels of that time.

Lance is correct, there are mainy folks that use “saltwater popping” blanks for crankbait rods and mag bass and spin jig blanks for inshore. The St Croix sc3 inshore labeled fast are indeed fast action ccs angles around 70-75, they also have some moderate action for popping or treble hook lures.
If you want a fast action blank look at the Immortal bass cast or spin, SC inshore ,Point Blank or

If I was you look for something of good value but still high quality and a composite blank to make the rod lighter. Since you like your Crowder try to match the power and action. Look at Rainshadow jig and bait or Rod Geeks S glass composites.

The “comfort finish” reel seats has a rubber coated outer which does give a little more grip to it. Is it worth twice as much as the non coated that is up to the be holder.

Good advice here.
Removing guide wraps aren’t easy especially a painted high modulus rod blank. Since it fishes well I would leave it alone too.

Received my sample of AA.I haven’t tried any wraps yet but it looks really good. Definitely thinner visually than any A that I have used but with good stretch and strength from pulling a small section off the spool. Initial impressions is that it should work very well for light fly rods.Hopefully I will be able to really try it out soon.
Thanks Gabriel for the sample

Looking for a versatile mh crankbait rod blank mainly for medium divers 3/8 to 3/4 oz lures from a kayak.
Has anybody here use or try the NFC Delta crankbait, a Rainshadow Judge ,Rod Geeks B476hmm of MHX X comp crank?

As much as I like the St Croix designed blanks especially Avids and the Rod Geeks the only issue you may have is that it is a 70/30 split while the others you have listed are 50/50.
The Am Taks are very nice blanks too.
Don’t know if you can get them in Australia but Talon USA makes a very nice light surf blank ,Anglers Workshop also has their private label made by them 10’6” 1-3

Thanks Gabriel,
Wouldn’t mind checking out the fly tying thread as well as the braided fishing line if you come to the ICRBE.

Since your talking about NFC, has anyone try the new Delta series? Their price looks good for a USA made blank especially if they perform well.

That is an amazing deal right there! I have been reluctant to order one rod blank with mainly supplies in the past due to the oversize charge, this takes care of that.

I have my surf rods plate seats wrapped on carbon fiber hard tubes but with that said I don’t think wrapping them on a high density foam would be an issue. I have seen people wrap them on top of cork tape.

No rust should be the first selling point.
Wonder about impact durability though?

229. Re: Spiral Wrap
I think it does not matter which way, I built mine on the same side as the handle so I can lay the rod down on the other side easier.
2 transition guides
You may want the butt guide not at 0 but around +or- 5 to get the line to lay in the middle of the reel while retrieving.

I think for the best bang for your buck would be a steelhead rod blank. Anglersworkshop has theirs made by Talon in the USA, one model is a 11'2" 10-20lb line around 5 oz which is pretty darn light .Not as light as CTS or Century but also much lighter on the price tag. MHX used to have some carp rod blanks that would of been perfect but they were discontinued.

I am building a 8'6" 7 weight fiberglass in down locking with fighting butt, it is just an uplocker reversed with an inlet butt. I have even seen small fighting butts glued to flat round down locking seats. Heavier and longer blanks benefit more with a downlocker for balance and many grips that start off skinny near the butt like cigar,Fenwick and Ritz.It comes mainly down to personal prefer

Cosmetic blemish blanks can be picked up on the cheap. I bought some high quality blanks that would retail for $120 each for less than $20 each just because they have a slight bend going near the tip or the paint job was off, not enough for most eyes to notice and certainly not the fish.

It depends on what size fish you are targeting and how much weight is needed in the current/depth you are fishing. I have a Rod Geeks X Comp 733 that I use for catfish, light enough to hold for a long time and very durable. If I was looking for carbon fiber rod I would check out the Lamiglas infinity 12-25 on closeout at Anglers Workshop for $68 which is a deal for a USA blank, or if needing more

Maybe the blank didn't seat far enough down the ferrule during bonding or like Matthew said in regard to weakening by possibly sanding it down. I wonder if a solid fiberglass spigot "stint" would be stronger if the blank OD is too big to fit in the metal ferrule?

Personal wish list:
CCS measurements is tops
Nano resin use in lower or mid modulus carbon blend blanks not just for less cost but durability closer to fiberglass but still lighter for inshore and catfish. I did noticed very recently that Rod Geeks came out with vertical jigging blanks with nano resin at a very attractive price.
More selection of good quality mid priced fiberglass fly r

I am more used to surf rods using up to 80lb mono shock leaders, have 10 runners and tip on mine and it cast well. Granted this is done with much more power than underhand pitching. If I was using 100lb leader I would go up to size 12s, the weight difference is very little between the two on a surf rod and certainly on a 50-80lb jigging rod.
