Tom, this builder states on his website that he uses "solid graphite rings". What are solid graphite rings? I'll pull out the article and read it again. Thanks.

I had a customer tell me the other day about a builder that uses solid graphite rings when fashioning his grips. He spaces them in between cork rings, glues them up and shapes them. I was told this dramatically increases sensitivity and feel. I've never seen or heard about this until now. Can someone fill me in on this. Thanks.

Has anyone tried using a light colored thread for the top/overwrap? I'd still be using a dark & light thread on the bottom, but would like to try using a light colored varigated thread on top. I remember the article(s) recommended using dark colors on top/overwrap. I've forgotten if/when there has been any discussion on this.

I throw alot of deep diving crankbaits and have found that by going the extra 6 inches to a 7'6", I am able to throw the DD22's farther, get them deeper, and not get tired. I now use the Rainshadow RX-7 CB76MH from Rainshadow, through Custom Tackle Supply. The blank is extremely light and perfect for heavier cranks and traps.

Jim, I have a couple extra that I would be happy to send to ya. They are 1/2" approx. I have been using them for a couple years now and they give you perfect results nearly everytime. Just let me know where to send them and I'll drop them in the mail tomorrow.

The article in Volume 9 #3 explains Exactly what you are asking about. And it works fantastic.

Shikari IMB794F or MB794F. ATC took over the Shikari Line and they have some outstanding blanks. The lighter one being either the IMB803 or MB803. The heavier one is the 804 series. I use swimbaits all the time and have found these blanks to be the best. A 12-14" split grip fits very nicely in the armpit. For really big swimbaits, they have an 805 series, which I have never tried.

A very good article on that in RodMaker, Volume 6 - Issue 6. It will give ya everything you'll need to ask the right questions.

I throw lot's of swimbaits and the very best blank I have used to date is the Shikari 794F, either the SHIII or SHII series. The III series has x-fast tip and the SHII series is a fast tip. The SHII is affordable and just a super blank. You can cut a couple inches from the butt if you feel it might be to long for your son. I have also built on the Rainshadow, but much prefer the Shikari. Merrick
