Don't tell 'em that I told ya, but you might look at Bill Stevens as a suspect. I don't want to point any fingers, but he would be at the top of most peoples list. Be extremely careful if you follow my lead on this.

Jerry, Many times I end up using more guides & I used to think I was messing up too. But as Tom has stated, you are probably right in your results. The only thing you might try is smaller running guides & stretching them out a bit. Stop when you get the best results. Jeff

Mr. Riggins, where did you get that figure of $40.00 from? What rod has Airrus ever produced for $40.00? Additionally, where did you get the figure of $200.00 Plus for every custom rod crafted out there? There are no doubt cheap rods out there that will work for people like yourself, but there is also a small percentage of people out there who APPRECIATE real craftsmanship, whether it be custom r

Scott; I have a 3C62MXF that I really love, but I think that's not enough power for the 100 series pointers. I personally use a Rogue MB703 for my 100 series pointers, that I cut down to 6'7". Talk to Bobby Feazel, as he's really sharp on which Rogue blank would fit your needs. Jeff

David, get you some of the Loctite 493 that Bobby stated. I was all worried about losing my split tip-tops before I took Bobby's recommendation. This stuff is awesome if you don't want your tip-top to come off, just be sure you have the top in place before you apply the Loctite! Wrap your thread & apply finish. Jeff

I resepectfully disagree with you. There are MANY OF US out there that give rod length consideration when it comes to hook set. Whi

Mr. Colby, as a matter of fact, I'm presently in counseling for my imagination. What I'd like to know is have you been watching me through the windows in order to gain evidence of the drug use. I'll be purchasing blinds tomorrow. But, I'm going to continue to use my 12'6" carolina rig rod. Wait a minute, there goes my imagination again. Well, it's back to the medicine cabinet for me. Jeff

The hookset on a carolina rig is done in a sweeping motion rather than a typical bass hookset. I find that by sweeping the rod horizontally rather than vertically increases my hook-up ratio. The sweeping motion should eliminate the break offs. As a footnote to my previous post, I find that with many of my guide clients, the majority of them bring rods in the 6'6" length & shorter. I wil

Jeff Shafer wrote; When I asked why, he pointed out that on longer distance hooks sets the rod feels too tippy and he feels he isn't getting a good hook set. A non-scientific answer on my part is that when I first began to bass fish I used very short rods. Over the decades it became clear that the longer rod provided much quicker hook sets. Today I fish up to 150 days a year and a majority of my

I've owned several different brands of bass boats & presently have an new Ranger 521 & it is hands down the easiest to load & unload rods. No matter WHAT brand you have, you must pay attention when performing that task. The extra ONE second it takes to be careful pays off handsomely. Jeff

I use 3.5's w/braid-flouro leader on a swimbait rod. Although the knot makes noise going thru the guides, the noise was just as loud when I threw with # 6 running guides. The weight of the swimbait really makes that knot slam thru thru those guides, but I've never had a failure in either the 6's or micros. I do occassionally check my knot as it wears the flouro leader at the knot. Jeff
