Bob, the blank I tried putting PG on this morning got painted about a year ago and to be honest with you I don't remember how I prepped it. My dads rod I prepped but lightly sanding the blank with 800 grit paper then wiped it down with DNA and let it sit for about a week. I sprayed a light first coat and let it hang for a week, sprayed another light coat and let it hang for two weeks, spraye

This morning I attempted to coat an old ice rod that I repainted with Krylon Fusion with PermaGloss before I actually do it to my dads Christmas present and it looks as though I spread paint removed on the rod. Its all bubbled up and wrinkled and the paint is literally falling off so I am not going to use that on my dads rod, I just need way more practice with it before I use it again. Anyways

Roger, I emailed him and he told me they were size size 5 barrel 3 and I asked for clarification and he hasn't gotten back to me. I had a few minutes here at work to throw an order in quick so I was hoping someone here knew.

I have a couple of TB ice rods (Finesse, Panfish Sweetheart) that I need to order tip tops for, the ones I bought previously were to small. I went to measure them last night and my digital caliper died, does anyone know the size of the tips on those rods?

69. Rollers
I am getting ready to turn a few cork handles but I am having trouble find some tools to do so. I really really really don't want to buy the cork lathe that I have seen on a few different sites. I have been looking for just the rollers, but I can't seem to find anything that is decent priced. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Chris I did put it into the thread art category. As far as the size limits I am not sure on that, it said it submitted successfully which I assumed that it take it because of that, maybe it was too big.

73. Photos?
When you upload photos to the photo site do they have to be approved? I am sure it said something in the terms and conditions but I don't remember. I tried to upload a picture yesterday and it said it was submitted but I don't see it in my photo album nor in the photo album that I loaded it too.

richard, I don't mean to tell you that you're wrong because lord knows you have more experience with rod building than I do but everything I have read on here excluding this thread says to use Krylon Fusion its just as good as anything else and cheaper. Is it the combination of the enamel paint and the permagloss? I have a can of Krylon Fusion clear coat, will that work as well as the permag

I prepped it by lightly sanding it, rubbing it down with DNA to remove all the dust and then let it sit for a few days (no real reason other than I just didn't get to spraying it). I did not prime it because I didn't want to extra weight of another layer of paint knowing that I would have to probably put on two maybe three layers. The paint I used was not Krylon Fusion, it was a hobby paint by

Tom, It will be 2 or 3 lbs test. I will be putting an Okuma 2/3 fly reel on it not a spinning reel.

I am finally beginning to get the components together to build my dads christmas present. The blank is s 28" Thorne Bros Finesse blank, with that I am going to pair with an Okuma 2/3 fly reel. I am planning on using Recoils double foot snake guides for the simple fact that it will allow me to make this a bit more decorative with an under and an over wrap I just don't know what size guides

Joaquim, Thank you. I am building a bunch of ice rods so the ID needs to be pretty small. As soon as I get all the blanks in I will do some measuring and send you all an email.

I was looking at Cork4Us website and was looking at the price for rings with a center hole already drilled and without a center hole. The price isn't much different in the two so I wonder, Is it worth saving a few buck to get the undrilled rings and drill them yourself or just go with the predrilled rings?

Chip, I am assuming that you are talking about their powernoodle? I thought about going with that blank but wasn't sure on the speed of the rod. Even though this rod will be used to target deep water perch there is an abundance of walleye and the occasional northern, I wasn't sure if the PN was going to have enough backbone to get a solid hook sent into a walleye in deep water. Bill, that is

Bill that is exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't sure just how light their ultra light was, sounds like it would make a pretty good light spoon rod though. John, I have been thinking about the Panfish sweetheart as well, for a spring bobber rod I am not sure spending an extra 20 bucks on a blank is worth the price. In your experience is the quiverstick going to be sensitive enough to se

I am looking for a couple of ice rod blanks and I am having a hard time choosing. I have narrowed it down to two, maybe three, different blanks but having never seen either blank I'm not sure which one will be best. The first rod I am going to be building is going to be a jigging rod for light biting deep water perch, using jigs from 3-4mm tungsten jigs and size 8-12 lead jigs and plastics ex

Before I left to come over to this god for saken desert I was working on rebuilding an old rod of my dads. It was an old Berkely Cherrywood rod, the blank itself is red the foregrip and rear grip were red foam and the reel seat was red. I am planning on putting on refinishing the rod putting new guides on, a new grip and reel seat. I would like to find a reel seat that is classy yet something
