As always, thanks for the help. It's drying now and hopefully it'll be ready for Saturday. Steve

Hello, Well, the rear hood on the Rainshadow float rod came loose. I was able to cut the rear cork away and re-glue the hood so it shouldn't happen again. I'd appreciate any tips on fitting and gluing the new rear grip (cork) over the butt of the blank. I'm sure it's not the bet way to do it, but it beats tearing the rest of the rod apart. Thanks in advance, Steve

Now you got me a bit concerned. The reel seat in question is a Rainshadow GS17C-GWG-G, which is a skeleton style I believe. The lock nut, insert and hood come separately and need to be glued to a graphite barrel of sorts. I'm thinking I didn't glue it well and that's why it came loose. Am I missing something here? Or isn't this the way skeleton seats work?

Thanks for the tips everyone. I had to cut off the fore grip to re-glue the hood. It could have been worse as the guides were only held in place by elastic bands and I didn't do the but wrap yet. The inlays were salvaged so I had to shape another fore grip and glue everything back together. Steve

Hello, While doing a few casting tests, I noticed that the reel was rocking a bit, so of course I started cranking down the seat nut. In the process, I found the problem is a loose hood. Is there a way to remove/salvage the fore grip? And is there bullet proof way to secure the hood? Thanks in advance, Steve

Hello, Well, it's that time. I'm ready to layout the guides and start wrapping the 13' Rainshadow steelhead float rod just in time for the fall run. I'd sure appreciate some general recommendations for guide size, spacing and tips on how to keep a clean straight line where the finish coat overlaps the wrap and bare blank. I was thinking about using a single wrap of tape about 1/16" f

Hey David, Thank you for the kind offer. Very decent and generous of you. I'd need a 17"X3/8". What would I owe you for your troubles and time? Please email me at fxdl@alltel.net when you get a chance. Steve

Hello, I'm looking for a mandrel for an older Toast Master lathe that's in the 16"-17" range for turning longer cork handles. I'd like to pick one up from Lamar, but can't get in touch with Andy to place an order. Thanks in advance for the help, Steve

Thanks everyone! Just have to wait for the blank. Apparently Baston has stopped production because they've had problems with the ferrule breaking. It looks like a month or two. No big deal since we don't have summer run fish. I'm sure it will be ready by October.

Hey Rolly, Thanks for your post. Just curious why you like the Rainshadow better? Thanks again, Steve
