Thank you very much for the info Scott, I believe I'll do just that . Duty charges avoidance was the reason for which I was looking to buy them from Canada and not from US .

Yes , I've checked their online catalog but I couldn't find the guides I'm interested in. So I was thinking that maybe there is some other rod building shop in Canada which might have them .

Why do you need a competition for? Custom is just that, custom and is made for a specific hand, eye and use ! At least in my opinion :)

Nice to know that but since there always was a difference between those 2 brands I was curious which one other builders would prefer regardless of the money. :)

Hi all, I'm looking to build myself a new rod for light jigging and I want the most sensitive 2 pieces blank on the market. Must be a two pieces rod for transportation reasons altough I know it won't match a one piece rod in performance. I will use it for Zander, Pike, Perch and other predators from european waters but you may also think in bass and walleye fishing terms when recommending som

I have an 842 to. It is my go to rod when fishing for Perch and Pike with jigs and I love the way it bends during a fish fight . As Tom said the QLP series is not as stiff on the middle and butt section as the spin jigs but that's just the reason I like it for. It has a more progressive action and bends more naturally under load but it is still a fast action rod overall. It is working best with

The specifications table does not contain any information about the weight of the blank . Could you fill up those info for us?It will be nice to know each blank own weight before buying it

Ok, thank you Tom for your answer. There are themes in discussion here on some topics which can shed some light on things people are asking about pretty often. It would have been much easier to just post a link on FB than explain it all over again to them.

Hi everyone, I've tried to share specific topics from our forum (as a link) on Facebook a few times but every time I've done it was shared the main page of the forum instead. Anybody knows why is that happening? Thank you for your answers

Thank you all for your replies, I will check out the local regulations for Ottawa- Gatineau area in this matter. If there are any other thoughts on this please feel free to express them because any advice will help. My immigration will be a matter of family reunion so now I am considering my options and arguments for staying here (and end a relation) or going there (and start from scratc

Hi there, I'm interested in some let's say "legal" aspects of building rods in Canada . I want to know if are there any special requirements for building rods in Canada or not. Is rod building recognized officially as a profession or occupation? Does one needs to take part at any course or seminar to be allowed to practice it? Is any kind of degree needed or something similar ?

In general, you might experience a reduction in casting distance as a side effect but, it will be to little to be noticed with the naked eye (for only 10 degrees angle). Another side effect will be birds nests or wigs as we call them (usually on higher degrees angles , undersized guides and thick or stiff line) In the future you might double-check the alignment looking at the reel throu

With an old spinning reel (5:1 ratio) a coking spray cap and a rubber gasket for toilets (like this one : ) you can make a rotation device that works pretty well . Adding a rod pod or 2 "Y" rod holders and a girlfriend or wife to spin the reel as you apply the finish and serve you beer when you take on the reel handle it's about all what you need. You can even couple the reel wi

Tom, I'm glad that we all finally agree on something. It is true, I did arrive a little bit late on the party, but I've done my homework (quite allot of it lately ). Sorry for bringing up front things that were discussed years ago but it seems to me that many people still don't understand much when it comes to this KR system (if I remember correctly a year or two back we had almost t

There is one "little" thing here that Tom is missing every time this kind of discussions are taking place : the other benefits of building according to upsweep because, as I have already said, KR it's not just about casting. Kr it's more about sensitivity ,rod power and rod balance and here we all agree I guess. Simple said the closer the stripper is to the reel seat (and a

I also disagree the zero importance of the upsweep theory . It is a matter of simple physics which says that (regardless of the fact that the line is pulled or pushed) the steeper the angle between the line and the guide or the line an the lip of the reel spool is the more friction you will get. More friction equal less casting distance . So, because practice makes perfect with 40 lb b

Good idea but is more work to be done before generating the best KR Concept layout for the reel, line and blank you have chosen. In my opinion you should put the upsweep back into equation because just the reel size class it's not enough (Different producers have different upsweeps for the same reel size and that will produce different choke points in the same size. ) Besides that, different pr
