134. Re: POINT BLANK...
Bill, according to what I've read on their website (Point Blank's) that they offer a reduced taper about 12"-14" from the butt, making sizing for components less of a hassle. Is this true?

I broke one on a 5 lb. speckled trout trying to dead stick it. Dumb on my part plus it was one of my first builds but, none since then and I've been building for a little over 2 yrs now.

Hi Tom, after going back and looking at the other 2 rods I used it on, for whatever reason just the first blank I did the B with looked like that. The others didn't...go figure. Oh, I use ProKote medium build. Maybe it's just me but, the ProKote seems to give me a crystal clear finish in comparison to Flexcoat and ThreadMaster.

I have several spools in various colors. I primarily use it to wrap my guides. I wish the black was blacker, looks a little hazy when finish is applied, overall a good product.

138. Re: dryer motor
John,
I currently use my Alps pw to do just that. It would be nice to find a 200 rpm finishing motor with an adjustable rheostat to do just what you're recommending.

I'm looking for a dryer motor that runs anywhere between 40-60 rpm. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

After the responses I got I had to go back and re read my post. I'll try and unring this bell. My wording was off, I don't have any problems with the build at all, I only want to understand better reel height to guide relationship. This combo will be a spinner, with the reel being in the 8 or possibly 10000 series size. The blank is an inexpensive store model from a local rodbuilding supplier. Th

I built my first offshore rod in June and was pretty satisfied with the results. Only problem was I followed the recommendations of my supplier on setup... guide size, rod length, grip length, etc... This time I want to set it up according to my own specs. I realize there are some standards that are set and no need to venture away from those. I'm talking about things like guide type, height, reel

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced fuzzies in Sulky thread when doing trim bands or wrapping guides, usually after I apply first coat of finish. The odd thing when additional coats are applied the finish doesn't show any signs. I'm not really complaining just wondered abouts others using the same thread.

Some ask why would rod builders attend? I ask why not? A few trailblazing products have come from ICAST, for example Microwave guide system. I have as of yet to see where major rod manufacturers in our region have used them on their production rods. So, for me I'm glad CRB attend. Kind of gives us a leg up on incorporating new technology before the masses find out. :-)

I was a searching the site to find subjects about accelerated curing time and found a post about drying in the garage. I live in Houston and we're already seeing 90* days, don't have a thermometer but I'm sure it
was pushing 90-100 in there. Long story short, "IT WORKED" turned a 5 day build into a 3 day. Now, I have my rod ready for red snapper fishing

Some tools could be a necessity, some for convenience. It depends on what you want to do, for example if you have the time to sit and rotate a rod every half hour or so then a dryer is a convenience not a necessity. As for me I'm usually working on a couple of projects at the same time, so a dryer for me is a necessity. You'll get a lot of opinions on this subject.

Thanks for the suggestions gents, Billy I really appreciate you taking the time to post a visual. This helps tremendously. I'll get to work on my rod with this new info.
