------Andres, I actually was thinking that lastnight - That would very well be an option if I can quit throwing the spools away, or I can go buy a few of the wooden empty spools.... ------Don, that would be ideal to get them on the carriage that I have. I haven't purchased any Maderia yet, and I am aware of the threads. But the problem with that is I will not be able to apply any tension on

I've been using PacBay 100yds spools and using PB power wrapper, and while I read some folks don't like using PB thread - it's been pretty nice to me. As I get into larger closed wraps (uh, yea thanks BIllyV for getting me consumed in your book, LOL), I'm buying more and more spools. One of the reasons, the two thread spool carriage on there will not allow for me to use the large spools like th

I too, mostly plan on matching to the reel, but there are times that info is not available, for example Christmas gifts, when the one requesting is not sure what reel but knows the color the receiver likes. Other times there's the matching the rod to the reel, while incorporating favorite colors. There are color scheme's and color themes (sometimes I go get the difference mixed up).

I see a lot of different themes for rods, mostly what I'm referring to are college football. They are fun to build, and great for bragging how the rod was built and showing it off. Whether it's for your personal use or family/friend/client. The link is one of those I'm referring to that was completed early October, this thing is a beast. Other than team theme's, once I choose the color of t

Not really an advantage, but I use a power wrapper even on the micros (though at a slower speed) until I get to the guide ring.

Yep, Steve is right on.... I'm in the process of finishing a rod wrapped in green. Tiger wrap in the split grip - used black/white for the base wrap, 2 coats of expoxy, and green with sacrificial thread on top. Came out very nicely.

I find that using spatulas are for better than brushes to getting those straight/sharp edges on the wraps, although on the ring side of a micro it can get really tricky. For the micro guides I use a triangle-sharp spatula and some itsy-bitsy teenie-weenie (about the size of a toothpick) micro brushes from a local hobby store.

I've done a few with the keeper in the split grip, the problem I found with that are treble hooks (top water/suspending) gets in the way while putting them in rod holders. It will tear the cork up and/or scratch the finish. So I went back to placing them above the foregrip.

TP? do you mean CP (Color Protector)? Make sure you give it enough time to dry, the epoxy could be picking up the wet CP.

I've been browsing this forum for some time now, since I've had the mis-fortune of becoming addicted to this hobby. Everyone here is chock full of information. And while searching rodbuilding.org and other places for epoxy repair, I have not found anything to compare to what I have going on. Here's my issue, and advice is more than welcome: The only big game rod I have is a Penn rod (older
