Another thing to keep in mind is having the underwrap in the opposite direction than the guide wrap. I've used A over A, D over D, D over A, all come out good if the underwrap is tight.

I use them on some Bushido's and a few Matrix rods. A great grip that's comfy.

I do like BillyV does, it's worth the extra $20 or so to have it delivered all in one piece after you've put your work and time into it.

Interesting....I see on one side there's an angle and see four cutting guides that could be endless possiblities. I have the older model set already. May be worth looking into. Thanks for posting.

Great post Mike, and great feedback. I've read a few post/comments regarding the box type heaters and this one seems to be the best of information so far. Thanks everyone for adding input. I, like Mike Langevin, struggle with electrical design. I could get my father-in-law to assist if 'he's willing' to do so. I am looking foward to more feedback on this post if you guys are willing to share

I haven't exprienced knots on casting at all. I have built several rods with them and haven't had anyone mention this, yet. I use 2 rods with MW when fishing all day, and haven't ran across the problem, fishing with popping corks and casting into the wind.

Same here as Drew with the relation to Araldite. ProPaste is good stuff. I use both, the fast set and regular - never had a problem with either and they set hard.

Those were very good blanks. The Matrix Mag Bass (AMMBC783-B) is extremely the best comparison to that model - light and great action.

When I do a single trim band, I wrap around the blank and cross over pulling back to towards the guide. I then tape the ends past the guide, and tape the single wrap in place close to where I begin my guide wrap. I try to wrap a bit tighter about one turn or two halfway on the guidefoot. From there, I remove the tape(s) and hold my burnishing tool (the point of it) at the cross and pull the th

I was hesitant with the ProKote, now I ONLY use it. Too much applied at once could result in uneven build up/football, etc. Like others have mention, multiple light coats 2 or 3 at the most is all you need. I apply it underpower about 15-30rpm and it levels itself out perfectly......IMO.

I just completed a rod lastnight with the last coat of American Tackle ProKote. I wrapped an underwrap and applied one coat of finish. Then I let it dry overnight and wrapped the guides and applied two more coats.

AmTak backs their productions 100%. Great products and service for sure. As mentioned above be sure to ask questions, you need him to be honest. I've never had a customer break a rod that was made on an American Tackle blank before.

You can use a piece of scotch tape over the rod label so you won't have to deal with finger prints.

I think I understand what you are wanting - layout the location of the grips, dec wrap a little past your marks and add 1st coat of epoxy then add and glue up the butt grip from the bottom and the handle grip (the tie off will be hidden under the grips). Then add glue up the reelseat and mark the top of the forgegrip, wrap a little past your mark and add 1st coat of epoxy, then slide the foregri

Take a quick gander to see if your and his arms are the same length, if the are approximately close - it should be fine what is comfortable for you. I build a lot that measure 5"-6" inches from the butt of the rod to the bottom of the grip, the grip would be about 4"-5" from the bottom to the bottom of the reel seat. Or, just measure where reel seat is for the 9" grip y

My son's cat "Dazzle" recently deceased. she would curl up under my bench (on some old towels), and I would forget about her in there and lock up for the night - sometimes I'd remember her there and chase her out. One day I walked in the shop the next afternoon, during winter but heater was on and it was nice and cozy, to check on the epoxy that should be dried by then. I opened the d

Are you forcing it on the reamer with pressure? If so, just let the reamer do the work with very little pressure going down the reamer.

I use my American Tackle power wrapper often for tiger wraps. I added an "eye" to the center of the thread tray/trolley and have both spools feeding thru it. Though sometimes I do get overlaps still.
