Ba, what I have been using on red cedar which i get from Archie is envirotex Lite. 2 part 1 to 1 mix. It is the finish that plug builders in the east use as finish and also used on bar tops. The finish is crystal clear hard and has good uv protectiuon. Can buy it at Hobby Lobby and if you have a smart phone they once a week have 40% off. Will try to send you some photos. I should have stated that these will be at my booth at the ICRBE. Custom Fish Grips-split grips airbrushed and epoxied. I thought that a couple of fly handles might be of interest. By the responses I think I will make full wells in down locking. Probably with a rainbow trout theme. This piece should weigh 1 1/2 oz. Thanks again

Making some up locking fly grips. 2 parts ! how wide should the insert hole be? 2 How deep? I hope many of the reel seats are close in size. I realize that the down locking seat the end can be flat. Thanks for any help. Bill

Roger. is right on. Drill a 5/32 hole in the cap of each. Syringe should fit snug. always have syringe pulled half way out with air. when ready turn bottle upside down and depress syringe. This will push the air out. Now draw the amount needed. Hands never touch epoxy.

Have done a few for customer. Mine are painted after turning. He wanted 1/4" bore and 7" long. Using red cedar cut 2 pieces drilled and glued up.. Like Phil use collet chuck and live Jacobs chuck on tail stock 1/4" stock for mandrel.. Personally I would rather the bore be a little larger and use tape for arbors. Trying to dill after shaping as mentioned can be a waste of time

John, If you are going to have a gathering make a new and different title for post. The reason is this post will get pushed back pages and people won't find the time or place. Bill

Have done it with ls supreme because the high build was for me too hard to work with. Obviously it gives you a mediun cosistancy. Make sure that you use the same amount of a@ b of each. Should be fine

2X what Fred said. Most rod building syringes if you drill a 5/32 hole in the top of A & B in sert plunger. When you are finished with that bottle of finish just screw the cap with plunger on new and done.

John, thank you for the kind compliments. This project has been a trial and error. Finally have some of the kinks straightened out. Your work on the Brown trout is exceptional. Very crisp clean colors and has given me some inspiration to start one soon. Keep up the good work and post.

I have mixed equal parts of high and low build both a &b. It is a thinner mixture than the heavy high build with the same properties. I think!! Worked ok with alittle more pot life.

First I want to thank you for undertaking white a task. It is important that younger people learn rod building. It's funny that one person from this class could be a world class builder-never know. Thanks again-many great ideas above Bill

Great man willing to share his wealth of information. Met him cpl times at ICRBE and gave me some good info on a lathe. The rod building community won't be the same. I feel honored to have met him. Our time is not a dress rehersal. So make sure that you live everyday to the fullest
