Back in early 2011 started build of Payne 97 taper rod. Down to apply varnish for finish of rod. What has been accomplished applied single brush coat of plain spar varnish guides wrapped my question is will spray can varnish work? I had planned to dip finish rod but would like to ask about this method of spraying rattle can varnish to complete rod. Tim

I am building for my use a SC5 7' feet Heavy action rod for C-rig and football jigs to be used on Guntersville. Spiral or not and will go with micro's, if all on top use size 4 all the way or start with a 6 and work down. If spiral what is suggested setup? I am a bass fisherman and would like opinions on most sensitive bass blanks. I know that in general the thinner and lighter the blank the more sensitive and usually less durable. I can accept that rod may fail with some fishing situations i.e. improper handling. Will build only for personal use so only one person will fish rods.
