Jim,
I lay the rod on the table and take a straight edge (long T square for sheetrock) and line it up with the pole. I then take the reel without the spool and tie string on the reel center bolt. Put the string as close to the base (reel) as you can so when you pull the string out to intersect with the rod ( and Straight edge), you will notice the string in line with the reel nut. Basically

Rich,
If you have alot of ice jiggin' rods and noodle / float rods, let me know. Specifically I am looking for St. Croix 2s116lm2, 2s130lm2 & 2s106uls2.
The ice rods are for walleye and mostly panfish and the big rods are for centerpin rods, spinning rods for steelhead in upstate New York
Thanks,
Dick

Good for you. I bought a whole setup, which had an "adjustable speed motor" with it. Aftter the first 2 rods flying apart due to the inconsistant speeds, I sent it back and did the same thing you are doing. You would be amazed at what grandma has stored in her attic!!!

I built a couple of models. They all come with decals that are pretty good. you might want to go that route. Purchase the model to get the decals you want. The ones I bought were 12 dollars each.

Thanks to all who helped me. I used the thread and it seems to work. Only the fish will determine the fate of my crappie rod for my brother. He has to have a rod for each type of fish. I love it....Keeps me busy.

Steve,
I put masking tape around it. I do it so it fits snug with the sticky side out, then I wrap another section over the sticky side, so there is sticky on sticky. If you are worried about indents on the cork, I take a piece of styrene (used in model railroad building I get at the hobby shop) and cut tiny pieces so it fits over the chuck, or in my case the bolt. I put it between the bolt an

If you find some, let me in on the secret. I need to build centerpin rods (float rods for steelhead) for use in upper New York State on Lake Ontario, and I can't seem to find any. I need rods 11'6'' and 13'. G Loomis or St. Croix. I would think we are looking for the same, so if I find any, I will let you know.

18. reel seat arbors
I am in the process of mounting my reel seat and I accidently bore the arbors a little too big. It is not that bad, but not as tight as I would like. Should I wrap the blank where the arbors go with a wrap of thread? (size a will do) or shim with one wrap of masking tape, or even yet, leave it alone and let the epoxy hold it? Thanks in advance.

I have a flourescent light above me, and set a little forward of my work station. I personally like the warm white bulbs instead of the cool white (most common type of flourescent) bulb. To me, the warm white is a more natural light. I feel that the bulb in my magnifier that I use for fly tying does not give me the light I like. It is good for fly tying because I know exactly what I am tying

Larry,
Thats what I meant. Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I meant is that I would have to do a minor repair job to the rod.
Thanks for the reply,

I am building a few ice jigging rods for a guide in upstate New York and he would like the spring bobbers attached directly to the blank. Has anyone ever tried this. Using the rubber sleeve seems to fall off alot and he would like them attached directly. He is aware that if the spring bobber breaks, you have to repair the whole pole.
Thanks in advance,
