Hello fellow rodbuilders, if you purchase a new Calstar blank do you get a logo decal with the blank or do you have to request one from the manufactuer if your customer wants it on the blank. The one I ordered did not have one with it just a paper label with name and number of blank. Regards, Jerry

Hi guys, I had some gun parts plated with a black chrome finish like the process used for airplane engine parts. This is a extremely hard gloss translucent black color that is weather resistant. i would love to have some guide frames done with this process. The ones I bought as double black chrome looked like a powder coat paint job when doing the guide foot prep work. I guess I was expecting the

This post is for the rodbuilders who build for fun or as a hobby and not for monetary gains. I doubt that these savings would mean anything to those who purchase rodbuilding supplies for their business after rod shop discounts. With the prices of blanks and components and the price of gas at the pumps its just a way to save a little hobby money to build a little longer. Regards, Jerry

5. Thread sale
Always try to support the sponsers on the left list but if you have a Hancock Fabric store near you they will be having a Memorial Day sale on May 26 thru 29 with 50% off their Sulky threads including the new Holoshimmer line. We all know what it costs to keep your thread supply up to par. Now if you have to drive 50 miles to get there with todays gas prices-well you get the point. I'm not a fan

Hello Jim, here's whats been working for me. I bought a spray can of Fixative from a craft store (Hobby Lobby) or you might even be able to get it from wally world. This stuff smells awfull but seems to work for me. I think some cans may also be labled Fix-a-tiff. Regards Jerry Springs PS This stuff dries super fast but I let it dry over night just to be safe.

Hello there, you want to apply as few coats as possible to keep the weight and thickness down on your blank. There are some aerosol paints at the auto parts stores you can check out but if your looking for the color change or color shift effect check out The House of Kolor website. They offer airbrush paints that are premixed and ready to spray. Many of the questions your asking can be answered t

I hope this makes you feel better, went to Port O'conner Texas to pick up my boat and fishing stuff because of hurricane Rita. I have a rod rack that fits in the bed of my truck and holds eight rods upright. Coming back home with lots of boats and travel trailers for company that have not been down the road in years and a piece of shrapnel comes off the boat trailer in front of me and hits my w

Hello fellow rod builders, I took a ride on friday 08-05-05 thru the beautiful Texas hill country to meet with Andy Dear and pick up on some killer deals on rod blanks. For those that have not had the pleasure of meeting him he is a super nice guy and also a master rod builder. You have to cross the beautiful clear Medina river about a mile from his house, this river reminds me of some of the tro

Hello, If your eyes are old like mine It would be a good idea to get a flip down visor like Doc Ski uses in his rod building video. Mine has a number four lens in it which for me is just about right. That tip and the one about using a piece of spectra for a pull through loop has saved me a lot of headaches.

Hello there, Novice rod builder here , three rods total. I have been using Permagloss for guide wraps as these were light spinning and casting rods. Now I have built a 7' heavy spinning rod for use with a Penn 950 SS series reel. The first guide is a number 50 ring so I have underwrapped the guides plus I did a diamond butt wrap also. I mixed up three batches of Flex Coat Hi Build to practice wit

Hello there, thanks for the great ideas on eva repair and on the flocking question. Sorry for the delay in saying thanks for the help, the company I work for had a customer appreciation offshore fishing trip and they made me go fish also. Darn the bad luck!

Hello there all you flockers, I love the medium for changing the look and feel of an old rod or to give a customer an option for something a little different. I just got two new colors Royal Blue and Emerald Green and did a Royal Blue over so-so cork last night and I must say the color is stunning and can't wait to do a green theme rod. I bought the air assisted flock gun because I already have a
