Hello there all you flockers, I love the medium for changing the look and feel of an old rod or to give a customer an option for something a little different. I just got two new colors Royal Blue and Emerald Green and did a Royal Blue over so-so cork last night and I must say the color is stunning and can't wait to do a green theme rod. I bought the air assisted flock gun because I already have air in my shop. Here's my two questions, the flock seems to clump up into balls and makes the flock spray erratic out of the gun. I've had to process the flock through a kitchen sieve to make it loose and fluffy again which is a PITA. Don't do more than you need for the job at hand because its going to clump up again, I might try an electric blender next time if I can sneak it out of the kitchen. Anybody know what causes this and how to prevent it? Second question, is there any method to repairing eva grips that have chunks or gouges in them so that you can arrive at a fairly decent surface to flock over? I didn't order any extra cans for the gun and I just know that one of these days I'm going to put one color flock over whatever color is stiil in the gun and come up with a marbled flock grip. Static electricity. Move your flocking material to a more humid area and it shouldn't clump on you.

What I would do is what we do in woodworking called "Dutchman". Cut out the bad sections and glue in new EVA with contact cement. Let setup overnight and sand patches to shapes of grip if needed. You might even want to turn your grips down 1/16 of an inch before applying the flocking.

Tom must be right about the clumping - I live in Louisiana, dripping all the time, and have not seen any clumping. I have learned to lightly bump the air cannister valve very very lightly while the pressure on the regulator is aroung 5 psi to stir the stuff in the can without any exiting. I also noted and posted earlier about the first burst out the nozzle having the clumping you mentioned and aim away from the target until flow stabilizes.
