Lots of times the air is coming up through the threads creating bubbles. What finally worked for me it to saturate the threads with lite formula flex coat uv and let it spin for a few minutes. After it has fully saturated the threads I take off the excess finish and let it cure. 24 hours later, put on a second coat and let it spin. Check it after about 30 minutes. If you see any bubbles hit

I like that Castaway 874 blank as well for frogs. I have 2 of them and they are perfect for the walking frogs and buzz frogs. I fish them in slop so a mxf rod would not get it done for me.

what type of topwater are you looking at. I have different rods for buzz baits, frogs, poppers, and walking baits.

I have done several with the belly guides and have no problems with and without locking wraps. I did a couple of mine without to see if they would fail and have not 2 years into the experiment. I am kind of rough on rods, so you should be ok without locking if you choose. If I am selling the rod, I lock the wraps because it is too easy to do and eliminates a service call. Somebody rips a bell

I would like some info on those skins as well. Been doing some rods with cobra that look awesome. Like to do a canebrake rattler. I have done a western diamondback rattler that looks sweet as well.

I have a couple of rods that are broken and I want to try the repair process detailed in the library. Willing to buy entire blank if they are inexpensive.

it is possible that when you mixed you measured twice out of the same bottle (don't ask me how I know this). Ain't never going to cure. Wipe it off and try again.

for most fishing I have found that handle length in excess of 10" tends to get caught up in clothing while fishing and casting 1 handed. Longest spinning rod I have is about 7-6.

built a combo shakey head/drop shot on a batson rx7 822.5 blank. Works good for lighter shakey heads. Built one on a MHX mb941 for shakey head only and it rocks. I use it for deeper water for the leverage I get on it. I also cut 6" off the butt on it. It is a beast.

did a lp843 for shaky heads a couple years back. Extremely fast and very powerful. The tip section is very small.. Mine is missing said tip section after swinging a 2lb bass into the boat. Loved the blank but only used it 3 times. Now using a mhx 941 cut off to 7'4". It is very similar in action and power. Swung a 4lb spotted bass in the boat with it and it didn't blink.

slack in the line with braid is probably the cause. I get wind knots working top water and if I set hook and miss or pop my lure loose from an obstruction. It is not restricted to spinning gear by any stretch.

I like the moderate for braid which is all I flip or punch with. If you are using heavy mono a faster action might work better. You can still have a H or XH power with a moderate action

mhx cb903 is the same power rod in 7 1/2'. I have fished a batson 6'6" m crankbait blank and it was real nice as well. Either one will serve you well.

there is a picture of it on the fishmhx facebook page. Dang sharp boat. It would look better on a Skeeter however.

I have built the lami lp843 and it is plenty of rod as is the mhx sj843. Another shaky blank I have built if you really want something different is the mhx 941 blank. I cut 6 inches off of it to make it 7'4". Lot of power and a light tip. Any of those three blanks will handle those deep Lanier torpedoes.

depends on the weight of the crank. I use the cb70h for throwing 1/2 oz lipless baits and it works real well with ripping grass. Anything lighter and I would go with the mh.

Fluorocarbon line is very prone to breaks if you have gotten a kink in your line (backlashes?) or you cinch your knot to quickly without proper lubrication. I used to use it a lot, but now only use it for leaders and finesse applications (drop shot, shaky heads etc). Pline flouroclear is the worst of them. Seaguar INVIZIX is the best I have used on spinning tackle. Use the bass pro shops fluo

As odd as it may sound the best skipping blank I have found is the MHX 941. I cut 6 inches off the base for a total length of 7'4". Gets the rod tip and the bait out in front of the trolling motor. The tip is perfect for skipping and it loads quickly when you set hook.

You can control the size of the crackle by the amount of top coat you put on. Thicker coats make larger cracks, thinner make smaller. I also use the nail polish and it works great. You can experiment by putting down your base coat, loading a brush, and running it down the length of the base coat until the brush runs out of polish. You will be able to see clearly the effects as the amount of c

Sponsorship. Most bass fisherman are not high level tournament fisherman. If they see Skeet Reese or Boyd Duckett fishing in tournaments with a rod they can afford, then they will buy it. Be willing to bet that those same anglers have different rods on their deck when the money is on the line.

Will 2nd Bill Stevens on the 874. We lovingly refer to it as frogzilla. It is a dang beast.

I use it and really like it. Definitely takes longer to cure. I usually wait 3 days before I try to use one after applying the final coat of finish. Mine usually is tack free in 24-36 hours.

I use the guide foot adhesive and it works great. Lot easier to work with than little bands or tape for those with the arthritis in the fingers. Like Phil said, hit it a lick with the lighter, slide it across the glue stick and place on the blank. I hold it in place for about 5 seconds and then start wrapping. I have used it for guides up to byag25

I did that once and just criss crossed a few layers of thread wrap on it. When it was snug I worked the rod bond down into the criss crosses so that I could get contact with the blank and it turned out real well.

I have bought several from Mike Harris on the board here. They are adjustable, look good, and are easy to install. Don't know if he still sells them or not but I really like the system.
