advancing the "crackle" idea a little bit

I just posted 2 pics (not very good quality) of my first attempts at a "crackle" type finish (miscellanous section). I used Boyd Pfeiffer's idea in RMM 14/4 and did a little experimenting with Sally Hansen crackle nail polishes. After some testing and fiddling I came up with a process that seemed to work well for me and the results came out fairly nice looking. The posted pics don't really show the final product very clearly.
There are multiple steps I followed to get the crackle finishes to work properly. One wrap is black crackle over Sulky gold metallic and the other is black crackle over Sulky jade green metallic. I will be doing further "experiments" over the winter months and hope to improve a little on this can of worms I just opened! Rog Re: advancing the "crackle" idea a little bit

Yours look a lot better than my feeble attempts. I cut some 6" pieces of 1/2" pvc pipe, painted a base coat, added a coat of crackle and then sprayed a top coat. My crackle keeps coming out larger than I want it and it varies in size from one end to the other. after about a dozen attempts I put it to the side and haven't touched it again. I would be very happy with your results. Re: advancing the "crackle" idea a little bit

You can control the size of the crackle by the amount of top coat you put on. Thicker coats make larger cracks, thinner make smaller. I also use the nail polish and it works great. You can experiment by putting down your base coat, loading a brush, and running it down the length of the base coat until the brush runs out of polish. You will be able to see clearly the effects as the amount of crackle polish gets thinner. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
