Dave,
I still use the book method myself when I wrap. I've found that the book pages can become a problem at times as well as a bad spool of thread. I've solved that problem by using a plastic sandwich baggie in between the book pages, then placing the thread into that fold and closing the book. It produces a smoother tension than the pages of the book itself with less friction and wear on the

Hi Andy ,
How is the Threadmaster with any yellowing for use on white wraps ?
Being a new product on the market yet, has there been any kinds of aging tests or ultraviolet testing done with it to determine any yellowing effects ?
Threadmaster seems like a product I should be trying this year for a new finish .
Thanks for a reply, as I haven't been able to read much on the forum lately a

Hi guys n girls,
It's interesting when I've been reading about all the diamond wraps and chevrons and other cross wraps being made on rods, that for the past few years now, I've been noticing that the ladies are wearing the same types of diamond, chevron, and other decorative threadwork on their well done fingernails in the forms of nail polish !!!
I chuckle to myself when I see them and thi

Does clear fishing line disappear for you on a rod for wraps/repairs too ?

I bought some brass tubing in sizes that slip inside or over the next nearest size at a hardware store in the hobby section. They come in about 7 to 9 inch lengths, I think. Good for making all sizes of holes in trim work.
Or if you go to your local gun shop the gun shop owner should be able to get you different sized casings. Interesting thought there.

Regular masking tape does give up its residue to the rod blank and or guides if it's not fresh.
The blue tape should be much better to use as it's made for much longer applications than regular masking tape that's tan colored. I cut in width whatever small/narrow size I want with a razor and never use the edges of any tape that I would use. They make a colored green auto masking tape that might

Use a piece of cotton twine instead of rubber bands to hold the blank down in position to wrap. You can also double wrap the cotton twine around the blank for a bit of smoother tension.

For the blanks, guides and other things, getting a sales tax ID # and filling out quarterly forms and doing paperwork seems to be a time consuming task that some people may not need to want to deal with, just to buy at wholesale.
Do we have a wholesale buying club available to us as in the way they used to do it in The Rodcrafter's Journal ???

Guys,
I've been burning my hands on my steering wheel and seat belt buckle alot of days a minimum of five times or more in a day on consecutive days the past several weeks when it's been hot.
I finally had to get my air conditioning in my car fixed a few weeks ago. Now the air conditioning is worth more than the car ! lol
As the interior is a dark red I know that car gets really hot and would

Hi all,
I was just wondering if any of our sponsors have any of these items.
I'm just window shopping for some ideas I'm thinking about, such as ball bearing roller wheels for making rod rollers.
Ball bearing races for making spine finders and headstock assemblies.
Individual ball bearings for filling and mixing for epoxy and paint jars, ...
And oh ya ... a CHEAP ... 18 RPM gear motor fo

The casters touch each other and turn opposite each other as they turn, even with the rod in place. Later on, the one side developed a slight gap between the wheels, which I tightened the stems of the casters to come closer to each other, with fishing line wrapped around the stems.
Lemme know if you need anything else.
Good wrapping.

Wish I could post a pic of that ... but Hurricane Ivan last year knocked out my all-in-one-center so my scanner is out of order.
You can email me if you need to ask me any questions about it.
Sorry about the lack of a pic. It is too easy to make though!
There are a few other things I started out with that are still at a minimal cost.
If you wanna know what it really requires to start out

I made my wrapper/power lathe for nothing at all and still use it thirty plus years later.
Nothing fancy but it works great.
I was 8 years old when I made it without a dime to my name. lol
A scrap piece of 2" x 6" x about 18 to 20 inches is all that's needed for a "base".
A pair of plastic caster wheels 2 1/2 " in diameter at each end inserted into two holes drilled i

I think I got the English System in decimals down pat. In fact I like the decimals better than trying to figure out what size in decimals equals what in MM ???
I get confused like the rest when I try to figure out what decimal equivalent is equal to what in MMs !!!
Now for the really confusing part of weights that I can't figure out ... what does one one hundreth of a pound equal to in ounce

Andy,
I would suggest the U40 Ferrule Lube to you before you polish it with a steel wool.
It may be just what you need.
Good wrapping/fishing.

Stan,
How about using those wine bottle corks for re-enforcing the hollow ferrule ends and butt ends of the blanks ?
Have you thought of using them for making (lures) poppers for fishing ?
Also might try using them for making circular inserts into rod handles for decoration/trim.
If they're big enough how bout trim rings in handles ?
If they're big enough for a rod handle cork ring, have y

I only used the back, rounded side of a single edge razor blade I used for cutting the thread ends with, for the longest time. Worked for me for more than a couple of decades. Course, I did break down in the past few years and buy a Gudebrod plastic thread burnisher since I had a few bucks laying around unused at the time.

Hi guys n girls,
Once again, I went on my witch hunt for an exact 18 RPM motor that was cheaper than 41 plus bucks, without any luck. So much for 18 RPM motors for me.
However, I did go to allelectronics.com and I did finally purchase a couple of motors...both for $2.50 cents each !!! Even though they are 40 RPM motors, I'll figure out how much pulley power thinking I need in order to reduc
