Used #6 guide for tiptop. Squared off the end of rod and filled with epoxy. Liked the way it turned out

Converted SPG785 to a 3 piece rod and extended butt by 8". Built ferrules according to Ralph O'Quinn, RodMaker, volume 4. Used BVSLG06, 10, 16, & 25 guides.

Posted photo of my attempt to convert an SPG785 to a 3 piece rod. The main reason for this thread is to encourage new builders to learn from the experienced guys like Ralph O'Quinn who published a great article in volume 4 of RodMaker magazine of how to make ferrules, or Lynn Williams in volume 10 showing us how to make a PVC Rod Dryer chuck. If I'm was able to build them, so can you.

Hi Andy, hopefully someone can follow up with the right issue. There is an article in a previous Rodmaker describing the construction of the flat looms that you can easily build at home. It is probably similar to Doc Ski's 80-100 thread loom. I made mine out of light weight plastic sheet. I suspect that any stiff material could be used. It worked well enough for me to want to do more weaving.

I'm in the process of making a 3 piece spinning rod out of a single 6'6" SPG785-GB blank using Ralph O'Quinn's article on ferrules as my guide. I have some broken rod parts that I want to use, but can't tell graphite from fiberglass by looking at the pieces. What characteristic should I be looking for to separate one from the other.
Thanks,

Hi all,
Sorry this is so late in getting out. I, too, have the 'error' problem and resolve it by using the refresh button. Give it a try.

If I were fortunate enough to build custom rods as a full time vocation, the recent introduction of the poured grip really seems to be the way to have different styles and configurations of grips available for prospective customers to have 'hands-on' selection for their rod. Just a thought!

Thanks Erik,
I suspected there wasn't much of a difference.

10. Thread size
Hi All,
I've searched the archives to find out how size A thread compares to 6/0 fly tying thread, but couldn't find what I was looking for. Perhaps I wasn't asking the right question. I would appreciate any help in being able to know the difference. I've been using A size to wrap my guides and tie my flies. I don't think the fish really care. The flies seem to hold together. Maybe the diffe

Hi Doc,
I would really appreciate using the tutorial on Weave Patten making.

Allen,
Thank you very much for your post delineating the various thread sizes. I've a long way to go in learning weaving techniques, but this may help me guess how big the finished weave will be.

13. Re: Lighting...
I noticed Tom's response was to go to the library for an article about lighting. I visited the location, but wasn't able to access the article.
What am I missing? I didn't see instructions on how to open up the article I was interested in.
Thanks for your help.
Merry Christmas to all and thank God for fish!
