To add another NFC blank into the mix that might surprise people is the IM CB704. I cut two down to make jerkbait rods. They can throw small cranks, topwaters, etc. Good treble hook blank, crisp enough for jerkbaits and forgiving to handle fish surging at the boat. Take a look at the deflection curve on NFC's website. Really nice blank.

I'll throw another blank into the mix you might seriously consider. The RodGeeks C473MHXS... This blank is very unusual... very soft tip like traditional drop shot rods, but gobs of power... in my mind perfect for deep water heavier weight drop shot applications. The top fourth of the rod behaves like a M XF, then the rest of the blank is all MH.

Are you referring to the 705CB graphite or composite rod? Rod Geeks has really good composite cranking blanks in either M or MH. I would definitely look at them. They have graphite variations as well.

I'm building it with the Lew's Mr. Crappie Slab Shaker Reel. It could also be used with an underspin as well. He uses the rod like a fly rod, so the reel is just there to hold line.

After researching here I purchased a Rainshadow Revelation 6wt 10ft 2 piece to build a vertical jigging rod. I wrapped the guides up last night and also wrapped the last 2.5 inches of the blank up to the tip top in fluorescent yellow (as a visual indicator). Is there any issue with wrapping that much of the rod tip?

I'm fairly certain the SJ703's intended purpose is coastal fishing for trout and redfish. Someone measured the blank to "440 grams of power or ERN a little over 16 AA 69"... which to me puts it right in the wheel house of trout fishing with reds and snook in the mix. I grew up fishing the Louisiana coastal waters for trout and redfish and the SJ736 would be way too powerful for that pur

I have the NFC SJ704 IM, which is labeled as a Medium powered fast action rod in the NFC catalog and a medium heavy powered fast action rod on the website (Obviously one is wrong, I think the MH). The SJ 704 is listed as the remastered Loomis SJ842. If I look at the old published specs on this blank, I see it has an ERN of 18.92 (~540 grams) and AA of 75.6. The rod is only listed as being rated f

I don’t have any experience personally, but in my search for a frog rod blank the Phoenix UMBX XH in either 7’ or 7’-3” gets recommended a lot. Older blanks, but probably worth looking into. The other blank besides the hydra that comes up often is the MHX 874.

In my last and first four orders with NFC I've had considerable quality control issues as well as being sent wrong blanks. I ordered a MB704 which I really liked, then ordered three more, but as it turned out that first blank I received I suspect was a SJ704. So the three additional MB704's are being sent back. I ordered two MB706 HM's and one broke during a load test. I was sent a replacement pr
