This blank's rating seems low, help me understand

I have the NFC SJ704 IM, which is labeled as a Medium powered fast action rod in the NFC catalog and a medium heavy powered fast action rod on the website (Obviously one is wrong, I think the MH). The SJ 704 is listed as the remastered Loomis SJ842. If I look at the old published specs on this blank, I see it has an ERN of 18.92 (~540 grams) and AA of 75.6. The rod is only listed as being rated for 1/8oz to 3/8oz.
To me this lure rating seem very low for the published specs, especially when other similarly powered rods from NFC are rated higher. I've seen in the past where some actual GLoomis rods seemed to have very conservative lure ratings listed on the rods. Could that be the case with this blank??? In hand it seems way more powerful than it's listed rating, and certainly more powerful than say the DS6107 which shares the same lure rating and an ERN of 12.98. I guess I'll add I'm fairly certain I have the SJ704 in hand and they didn't send me a mislabeled blank (which I've received many here lately). Any insights would be appreciated. My goal for this rod was to chop it down to 6-8 and make a jerkbait rod out of it as it seem to have the perfect characteristics I'm looking for. Other blank specifications: Butt Dia. 0.56" Tip Size 4.5 Weight 2.24oz (from the website) Re: This blank's rating seems low, help me understand

Overall blank power isn't a good indicator of casting lure weight range. You can have two blanks with the same overall power and vastly different casting lure weight ratings. The blank taper will have a great deal to do with that.

What Tom is saying, IMHO, is that it is not only power, but also action (blank taper) that will have a great deal to do with that. Re: This blank's rating seems low, help me understand

I've used many G Loomis SJ842 blanks, they are rated 6 to 12 lb line, 1/8 to 3/8 oz lure weight and if you pushed past 3/8 oz in your lure selection you lost your crispness quickly, the reason they were so popular as light powered bailcasters back in the day. Appreciate the feedback. I'll probably hold that blank for something different. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
