Hey guys
I learned a lot on the topic I was asking about. A lot of good input. I was able to talk with my customer today. We will get together and I will get the reel seat positioned on the blank to his liking.
Once again never disappointed when asking for help on this site. I've built quite a few rods but always learning and visit this site daily as I'm a sponge. Never to old to learn.
Thanks

Hey Guys,
I'm going to be building my 1st split grip spinning rod using cork if that matters and not sure on the reel seat location from the butt of the rod. The rod is a 7' NorthFolk SJ 703-1 (X-Ray LMX) blank, reel seat is an American Tackle APEX G2 Uni Lock Hood, and the reel is a PISCIFUN Carbon X 3000.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well I ordered a 6’ 6” MHX Elite Pro NEPS78MLF to compare with RODGeeks C2 and NorthFork IM blanks. I also ordered a 6’ 6” MHX Elite Pro NEPS78MF to compare with RODGeeks C2 and NorthForks IM blanks.
IMOP they feel pretty equal. At least now I have them on hand to offer future customers more options.

Well I guess only one real way to compare blanks from one manufacturer to another is to get them. So I will be ordering a NEPS78MF and also SJ782. This way I will have them on hand for myself to compare and have them for future customers to compare.
I want to thanks those who gave me some input.
I also want to say that this site is a gold mine of knowledge and information for all rod builders o

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for opinions on MHX blanks compared to RodGeeks and NorthFolks blanks in a 6'6" ML-F. I personally like to fish with lighter rods for walleye and I built myself a 6'6" L-F rod from NorthFolk and love it. So last year I ordered a MHX 6'6" L-F so I had something to compare it to from MHX blanks. In my opinion it is way lighter as far as backbone between the two.

Funny the one glue I didn't have is the one that most seem to use. I will get some of the title bond III and give it a try when when I make my first handle.
Once again asked and answered by many.
Great source of information.
Thank you to all that gave me their input

Hey Guys,
Looking for some a advise on which is the best glue to use when making a custom cork handle with burl cork. I am new to this part of custom rod building but want to expand on my builds. I purchased a bench top lathe and have my burl cork. I have watched quite a few YouTube vidies but would like your opinions on which glue you like to use and why. Pro - Cons. I have purchased Elmer's Wo

I’ve had it happen to me twice with bad blanks. I ordered clearance rods thru Mud Hole. The OEM blanks where great but the CRB I couldn’t try to sell. I called Mud Hole and was told we don’t take clearance rods back but after talking with the supervisor he finally said this will be a one time thing. I paid to ship them back and they credited my account.
The other was with RODgeeks. I had two 7’

11. Ice Rods
Hey guys,
I have been asked about building an ice rod. I have not built one yet and wanted to get some input.
The questions I have are.
1. Who handles ice rod blanks? I did get on Mud Hole and see they have HMX and CRB. Any others out there?
2. What about guides. I am currently using Pac Bay guides on all of the rods I have built so far. Anyone know what guides they have that would work fo

Well here is another question I have.
Being I am selling rods does anyone have any good places to purchase reels for wholesale prices. Right now I am in with Nicklow's and Maurice Sporting Goods. Nick's has the better price but seem to have a problem coming up with the reels i am wanting which are the Abu Garcia Silver Max Spinning Reels NPF-SMAXSP10 and the President Spinning Reel NPF-PRESSP25X

No washer and dryer down stairs. Our basement is not one you spend any time in. Just my rod building area and storage. So nothing the wife would have done. And YES I do wash my hands. This is a 1st and I hope the last as I kicked A on getting this rod done this weekend. VERY disappointed but will make it right before I am done. I have very high standards and will not let it go until it meets them

I'm not sure where the contamination came from as I sealed it yesterday and then again this morning. All in the same area. Nothing changed other than the day but for sure something did. What are the recommendations on sand paper to use? Could I use a fine sand paper and leave it in the power wrapper to do it?

Hey guys I have a new problem to me.
I spent yesterday spinning up a rod and got my 1st coat of Flex Coat on it yesterday. I put on my 2nd coat on today and for some reason I have fish eyes in the finish on the handle end no where else. This also has a label on it. No fish eyes yesterday but have them today. I tried to brush it out and they came back after awhile in the drying mode. I used my a

20. Re: OEM Blanks
Thanks for the input. I had already gotten 3 - 6" UL - Mod and 3 - 6"6" Lt - Mod. I thought they seemed like a pretty good rod blanks for the price. At the time I also bought some of the CRB blanks. Those I was disappointed with.
Thanks again for the feedback

Well I sent pictures and a video of the crooked blanks. Talked with Mike at RODgeeks and he is sending me two replacement blanks. No hassles. Agreed they where not normal.
I just wanted to let you all know how I came out. I did learn a few things that I will remember from now on.
Thanks for all of the input.

Hey Mark,
I love Metallic thread and I will always pull off a bunch and run it thru my fingers and spool it back on the spool before using it. Will solve your problem.

26. Re: Crooked Tip
A lot of good input from all and I do appreciate it. I am on a learning curve and I do take all in and am learning as I go. I will say that all of the St Croix rods I built which where from UL to M I never had any with the crookedness in them I see in the RODgeeks. I have always found the spine and went from there. After seeing this I looked at the UL, ML, and M blanks and the only ones that don

27. Re: Crooked Tip
Hey Tom,
It is a crook before the tip not just a bend up at the tip. That is why I think it will be very noticeable to anyone I would build it for. I have sent an email to RODgeeks and will see what they say. To me I'd much rather get a blank that was straight than work with one like this.

28. Crooked Tip
I have a 7' RODgeeks C2 L-F cut down to a 6'6". Spine is found. Cork handle reamed and ready to glue on and I eyed down it on my test fit before actually gluing it and the blank has a very noticeable bend in it about 12" from the tip. If I where to glue the handle and put the guides on in this location it would be very noticeable. Any suggestions as to how to resolve this. I have anothe
