Chuck:
You are exactly right. It is an old Sabre Lite rod. I need one with an inside ring diameter of 7mm.
If you can help, Capt. Larry will appreciate it. Feel free to e-mail me with a cost at blueridgerods@hotmail.com.

A long time lurker here, but I believe a first time poster.
After moving to the coast a year ago, a lot of people have asked me to repair rods. A good friend asked me to replace a guide on an old Sabre rod. The guide is a double footed boat guide with a shock ring.
I have posted a picture of the guide on my picassa page. Here is the address:

Try the Batson RX7+. My customers say it is very similar to the SLT. It is moderately fast, light and very smooth.

I turn a cork seat out of Exotic Cork or regular cork and use Batson's U5 skeleton reel seat. It makes a very classy looking, affordable, lightweight grip. It is not as light as aluminum rings, but It is a super seat for light rods. I do not know if the Pflueger seat is compatable.

Forecast blanks by Batson Enterprises are a deep blue. They are good blanks and very low priced. Custom Tackle carries them.

If your skill level was advanced to expert, I would say you might be able to cast farther with a 10' rod. Faster tip speed and all that.
However, the 10' rod magnifies any errors in your stroke greater than a 9' rod. A 9' rod magnifies errors in your stroke greater than an 8' rod. If you have errors in your stroke, they could negate any faster line speed you might be able to generate with a

The Appalachian Series has become my personal favorite for light, short rods. Light, thin, responsive. They are really nice.

I find myself in your situation many times, especially when I build grips and want the seat recessed into them. I like that look, so unless I am using a "Powell" type of seat, I do it a lot.
This is what I do.
Properly ream and fit the grip to the blank. Then arbor, ream or whatever you do to fit the reel seat to the blank. Take the front hood and reverse it. Push the gr

This is my first venture into Spey Rods. I have an 11'6" Forecast 6/7 blank. I started laying it out convinced I should use single foot wire guides over single foot ceramic guides for the weight savings.
Then it occured to me that I might want the ceramic guides (Forecast Blue Ring) for the better "castability."
I am an above average fly caster, but have limited experience

Follow the instructions from Flex Coat. I use the LIte finish and can successfully make perfect finishes in two coats.
Thinning the first coat with acetone will allow the bubbles to release easily. I put seven to ten drops of acetone into a total of 3cc of Flex coat. You can put a very thin primer coat on in a few minutes.
Apply the second coat so you cover all the thread ridges. It, to

I have been using sand paper strip reamers for years, and have never experienced the problem you encountered. I did experience it on grit type reamers.
Discovering the strip power reamers has turned a chore of rodbuilding into an easy step. I ordered the Fles Coat grit strips from Custom Tackle. Why shop around and waste time when this item is already develped and readily available?

Why don't you offer the cork rings made to accept the foam arbor? Then we can have the best of both worlds, weight, appearance and flexibility to make our own own grip designe with rings. Put the arbor on the 1/4" mandrel, then glue up the grip on the arbor, turn it, fit it and mount it!!!
I know i could pre-drill the rings, but I am just trying to save time!! Also, if you made

I can't wait. I received my FFF Casting Instructor Ceritifcation last year, so I missed most of Saturday, and some of the good deals. I will be there first thing Saturday morning.
I have several people coming from Georgia to stay with me that weekend, and have told the wife to write me off for those two days.

I have used Andy's cork for trim rings, and I love it.
However, I made a 7" Western Grip from it, and did not use it because it weighed so much more than natural cork. I didn't weight it, but the difference is very noticeable. It is beautiful, but I primarily make light fly rods, and the extra weight excludes its use as a grip, IMHO.
Nothing I know of is better than cork.
