I will finish my most recent attempt with Flex Coat Lite. Does anyone recommend an initial primer coat? I noticed on their site they mentioned a primer coat thinned with acetone. Should I thin it or just mix and use as is? I plan on using 2 coats. Re: Primer Coat of finish

People develop their own ways of doing things. I never do much more than just mix up a batch and do the job with just one application. I will mention that I use the regular viscosity version when I use Flex Coat, and I can put it on thick or thin. With the Lite, you're pretty much limited to a thinner coating so 2 applications is probably going to be required.

Follow the instructions from Flex Coat. I use the LIte finish and can successfully make perfect finishes in two coats.
Thinning the first coat with acetone will allow the bubbles to release easily. I put seven to ten drops of acetone into a total of 3cc of Flex coat. You can put a very thin primer coat on in a few minutes. Apply the second coat so you cover all the thread ridges. It, too, only takes a few minutes. This method is more fool proof than trying to make a perfect one coat finish. When I am pushed for time, or when I make a rod without trim wraps, I also use one coat LS Supreme High Build. The time invested in applying the finish is the same becase of how careful you have to be with one coat, However, you save a day's curing time. I also use a spatula. I never use a brush any longer. Both are super finishes. However, I am interested in seeing some of the new products in Charlotte. David Edens FFF Certified Casting Instructor Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
