Or could the "4 wrap" reference how many guides are on the rod although this seems a little off as they were describing a 14' rod

I am Looking for blanks that are comparable to your Snyder glass rods that are so popular when paired with an Alvey reel. My first questions are concerning terms. I keep seeing the terms "live fibre" and "4 wrap, 6 wrap, ect." used when describing Australian blanks, and I really do not know what they mean. I think the 4 wrap is referring to the thickness of the blank wall

I was thinking that by using the New guide concept as outlined in the article found in the Library section that the "choker" guide remained as measured from the face of the spool. which in my case would be 1161 mm from the face of the spool. Spool Diam = 43 mm X 27 = 1161 mm I thought that the static teasting was to find the placement and number of all of the guides rom the choker t

After reading my post I think that I need more clarification: The choker guide measures out to be on the top section of the rod but only 1 3/8" from the butt end of the top section of the rod blank which is the female part of the ferrule. I had planned on wrapping over a couple of inches of the butt end of the top section for reinforcement

Upon measuring the guide placement of the "choker" guide using the 27X method I find that the choker guide is only 1" 3/8 from the female end of the ferrule. Is that too close? Should I move it further out? This is my first build and it is a 10' 6" spinning rod set up with a Penn Battle II 2000 using a Rainshadow BP1264F blank.

10. Lesson learned
I am building 2- 10' 6" spinning rods out of Rainshadow steelhead blanks for light surf fishing. I wrapped a double layer of rubberized cork tape 22" long for the grip and am using a fugi plate typ reel seat that I will wrap in place. This is my first rod build ever and here is where I learned a costly lesson today. I was finishing off the end of the fore grip using heat shrink tubin

Not planning on shortening a blank just trying to get a better understanding of the cause and affect of actions and component choices that i make when building. Thanks all for the information the gears are turning now.

Thanks alot I did not find that one. That will help a lot. I see that the guides from the reel start at a 25 do you think that will be large enough for the reel chosen or do I need a 30 and I see that it calls for 9 guides I would have though that it would require more (something I read led me to believe around 11)

16. faster action
Are there any building techinques or processes that will speed up the action of a blank? New to building and am just curious. I have read that by cutting down a blank from the butt end that it effectively slows the action some. Is that tru and if so is there something you can do to speed the action up?
